I have a small espresso machine, the $28 Mr. Coffee from Wal-Mart. I'm having trouble steaming the milk the correct way. I guess it's getting steamed well enough, but when I pour the drink it is always luke-warm at best, usually it's cold. I thought it may be because the milk is still cold, I dunno. Does anyone have any tips on making espresso drinks the correct way?!

I steam the milk untill the steam stops coming. The machine does kind of suck, I have to brew at least 2 servings to get any kind of steam, it just quits before the milk is hot enough I guess.

You need to use a cold, metal pitcher (it creates a better froth). And you steam it until it is very hot, you can use a thermometer and get it to about 160 degrees.

Basically,
You are correct. The problem is that you need to continue to steam it because what you are initially doing is airating the milk. Basically blowing bubbles in your milk with hot steam instead of a straw. I believe the temperature you are aiming for is 118 degrees. It has been many years since I worked at starbucks so its a little shaky.

Wal-Mart's Mr. Coffee costs as much as it's worth - close to nothing. Return it for a full refund and save some money for a better machine. The good ones start at $99 and go up.

Be sure you use skim milk to froth. Just keep frothing and steaming until it's hot.

Espresso is normally drunk black!!

But if you want to make a latte or cappicino - with milk, I'd heat the milk up in the microwave first then froth it up with your machine.

darling, your machine is a piece of sh#t, it will never perform to your expectations. Sell it on craigslist and go to the italian part of town and have a real cappucino (in the earlier part of the day, please) and set your sights on somthing in the $250 - $300 range... hey, maybe craigslist for that too... ghod damn! I loves me that craigslist!
