how in the world do you start a speech about either?

I think some people may have misunderstood your question. I do not see that you are not understanding what they are, but looking for a good way to begin a speech to get the attention of the group.

Being the weird person I am, lol, I would do something like:

"Good morning. How do you feel today? Are you ready to go out and challenge the world? Or, would you rather just head back to your bed. Today we are going to talk about sleep disorders, what they are and what you can do about them....."

If you are going to do a speech, perhaps you should look into the differences, which are obvious.

i would decide what you are talking about first, one is a generic problem for most at some point , the other is a specific medical condition
