If I was in that situation I would look at older cars from the 60s. They are cheap to buy, easy/cheap to maintain, and don't require expensive inspections.
My first choice would be a Plymouth Valiant. I admit that is a biased choice as I have one sitting in my garage. :)
You could also look at VWs from the same era, but you won't get them for under $1,000 because they are becoming more scarce.

Nothing. I would suggest you buy a bike instead. If you are only spending 1000 on a car then expect to pour thousands more into the car ever few mmonths on parts and things that break down. Its just not worth it.

the trick is to find an old lady wiht a nice car that her husbnad left behind. like for instence my freind bought a 40th aniversary mustage from a nice old lady for like 7 thousand and its a nice car. u just haft to look make sure everyone knows ur looking and that u need one. basicaly get the word out and the car will come to you.
