My braids always turn out pretty and I have long hair like to my mid back. But you can braid at almost any lenggth of hair. like with really short hair (to the shoulders) you might be able to french braid it.

I believe shoulder length is about the time you can start braiding your hair. some people braid it when it's shorter but it usually turns into a mess with a lot of stray hairs.

as long as it takes. You can french braid pretty short hair if you know how.

about 4 or 5 " past your chin to get it somewhat tight so it won't fall out. Longer would be better.

Grow it until it's at least at your shoulders or longer.
