What are the advantages of a plain digital camera over a camera phone?

Do you want a phone or a camera? The phones now have pretty decent cameras in them, but the resolution is still limited. A digital camera, however, can be purchased with a much higher resolution in case you want to capture prints that you can enlarge, etc.. If you want to cover both bases at a relatively economical price, then the phone with camera option is ok. You get what you pay for, and you will be limited on what you can do with the photos taken with a camera phone.

THIS is easy. CAMERA over the phone. Reasonning is easy enough. A digital camera WILL give you better pictures. Where as a phone while giving you decent pictures CANNOT compare to a Digital camera. NOW if you are looking at having BOTH a phone and a camera, then the camera phone.

I would definitely get the digital camera. Camera phones are fun and hand, but they are very limited, and the quality of pictures that you get from them is not the greatest. A digital camera is specifically for the photos you want to take, and has so many added features and tools that the normal camera phones don't have. If it has to be one or the other, go for the camera!

My own experience tells me a digital camera. Actually, invest a bit more and get a good one, potentially a Digital SLR.

Camera Phones and the small digitals provide poor quality. It's like using an old 110 camera versus a 35mm camera. The quality is vastly different.

Well, if you already have a cell phone, then just get a digital camera.

A camera phone is good and it is a good way for some close up fun but it isn't design to do great pictures.

digital camera vs camera phone: IMHO digital camera is better.

In a digital camera you have a much better than a camera phone:
- the lens = think about that big 55mm from FZ-30 diameter lens or 62mm from Canon XTi 40D;
- higher resolution = 10 Megapixels;
- software;
- sensor quality;
- faster main processor (the CPU);
- all the controls (shutter speed, aperture and ISO) are available and in a very user friendly way;

All these features in a camera phone ... NOT yet available ! and I believe it is about the price. A phone should be cheap. A camera can be as expensive you want or as good you want (to spend).

I think its better to have a digital camera because you get better quality and with the phone camera you don't get allot of light a digital camera is better when you print the pictures they came out more clear.

If you want to take pictures, get a digital camera. The quality is just superior (It's not just better. It's about 10 times as good).

Consider the phone if you want to call people instead.

A digital camera will give you a much better picture. Especially if you want to have the pictures printed. Camera phone pictures look horrible printed.

Digital camera not only is a camera but most are video cameras that have more space to load. Wereas a phone can do the same but not much space to load. I have both and think my digital camera is best.
