Not as bad as you would probably expect. However, pain is relative so no one can really tell you how bad it might be for you. Just know that its done and over with in seconds and if you go to a good professional, you shouldn't have many problems.

Most of the pain comes from afterward, during the initial healing period of 2-3 months. During that time you are most likely to get infections, experience migration and are also at a high risk for abscess and keloids if not taken care of. Just follow good aftercare practices, keep in clean and in 6-12 months (average), you'll be all healed and happy with your new piercing.

It got mine done two years ago. I went to the best place in town known for body piercing. This guy was good. I did not feel a thing! I was surprised when he was done. However, it was slightly tender, but nothing of a big deal. Just wear low cut pants and loose shirts for awhile. Also, TAKE CARE OF IT AFTER! A lot of my friends did not follow the cleaning and sea salt treament after the peircing, thus got red and infected. That's where the pain really is. I followed it "religiously" and had no problems at all. Also, just and fyi: Piercing is medically considered an open wound. This means, it will take anywhere from 6-9 months or longer to completly heal. So be patient. Just my two cents. Cheers and Happy Holidays!

it depends..
a "surface" piercing, no..no pain at all, just a pinch. This is the most common type of ":belly piercing"..what you can expect to get done most places..they are just a small piercing of the skin ..
now I have a different type of belly piercing, tribal, was done using an "bone" needle and is 1/4 inch into my flesh..
this is not a common or recomended method..I just cant explain the details of mine..was done at a pow-wow a few years ago among my fathers ancestors ( native american )

I have had mine for 7 years now. I had to have it done twice. The first time it didn't go in far enough. It did not hurt either time. The skin is a little sore for a couple of days after, but nothing you can't handle. But just remember, everybody tolerates pain differently. If you want it done, get it done. If it does hurt, it wont last forever. Good luck, I love mine.

Not when they actually pierce it. It hurts for about a second afterwards but then it is fine. Just try not to get anything caught on it, and don't pull on it for the first couple of weeks. That is really the only thing that makes it hurt.

i got mine done when i was 15. I'm 19 now. They use anesthetic so you don't actually feel the needle going through. They only thing you feel is a small clamp which they use to hold the skin in place . If you ask first, they can test the pressure of the clamp on the inside of your arm or back of your hand first. It doesn't hurt. i remember lying there waiting for pain... and there wasn't any.
Hope this little story helps. x

The piercing itself doesn't hurt. I didn't feel any pain until I left the parlour. I was sore for a couple of days. Mostly just if something brushed up againts the piercing and bending over. It's not too bad though.

Nope...I got mine pierced a year and a half ago. It pinched coming out the other side, but it didn't hurt. I was told if you can get your ears pierced, you can get your belly button pierced, and it's true! Go for it!

the clamp used was worse than the actual piercing. Get a hoop type of ring first since it's a. easier to clean (you rotate it throughout so the entire surface is cleaned) and b. it gets caught on less things. I've had mine for quite a few years so it doesn't bother me when it gets caught but the barbells get caught on quite a few things, you'd be surprised.
