It really depend on what you are looking for. If you just want your car or the others persons car fixed, then you can work directly with the insurance, yours or theirs, either one it is fine, but if you are looking for monetary compensations for any type of body injury or medical expenses, I strongly urge you to look for a lawyer who's specialty is car accidents and injury occassioned by somebody's negligence. Anyway. Think of what you would like to do. If you think it is nothing bigger than it should be , just do it by the insurance and try to not harm anybody with senseless sues that are very in fashion right now and can affect the other party family life, just beacuse of an accident. Good luck to you and hope that you are OK and your Insurance company might be one well respected.

Chris is right. An attorney will delay the claims settlement process. If you're in dispute with your own insurance company over the settlement of your vehicle, you should look over your policy regarding 3rd party arbitration before hiring an attorney.

Telling you yes or no would be giving legal advice. It's up to you. It's definitely not required, and when you have an attorney the case tends to stay open and unresolved longer. Insurance companies pay what the claim is worth regardless of whether you have an attorney. But you have to decide that for yourself.
