I have a 12 year old son. He has problems with his eyes going black. He dosen't pass out or anything like that he just can't see. Has anyone had a simular experience with lexapro like this. The doctors can't seem to find out what is causing the blackouts and they have done numerous tests on him and can't find anything wrong with him. So this leads me to his medication. I am trying to stay strong for him but, i dont know what else to do. they have done every test possible to him. now they want to put him on a tilt table and see if it is his blood pressure. I hope someone can give me some insight to this. thanks so much.

My 18-yr. old son was given Lexapro, and it caused him to be so confused and delusional that we had to admit him to a psych hospital for 4 days. He's been dignosed as bi-polar, and that may be why the Lexapro affected him so badly, it's contra-indicated for bi-polar disorder. Scary stuff, and I've since heard from others that they've had bad experiences with the drug too. As for your son's vision going black, the same thing happens to me if I stand up too suddenly, and it is related to blood pressure - mine has always been very low.

Its hard to believe the doctor has not considered the medication, unless he had the symptoms prior to taking it. This is NOT a typical symptom of lexapro or other meds. It may be a symptom of why he was placed on the medicine. Its impossible to know without more information. At any rate, I would confront the doctor about the possibility of the medication and tell him you would like to at least try a different one to see if it makes a difference. Children DO have different reactions to SSRI's than adults. And none of us react the same to them, its a very individual thing.
