What's a Self Help Organisation in Kenya? Is it the same as an NGO?

All self help organisations are NGOs, but not all NGOs are self-help organisations. This is true the world over, not just in Kenya.

An NGO (Non-Governmental Organisation) is independent of the government e.g. Save The Children. Most NGOs help others. Self help organisations follow a "do-it-yourself" philosophy - those people that need help set up their own structure to support each other and improve their own lot.
