Is eating out cheaper than cooking at home? Perhaps because everytime I go to the groceries stores, I noticed that the supermarkets keep raising the prices for food. So I am wondering maybe I should start eating out from now on... instead of cooking.
What do you guys think?

It is much more expensive to eat out. If you spent $30 at a restaurant for one meal, imagine how many groceries you could buy at the grocery store for $30, and how many meals you could make with those groceries. You can buy a pound of hamburger, a can of spaghetti sauce, a box of spaghetti noodles or other pasta, and a loaf of french bread for $5 or less, and have plenty of leftovers for lunch or dinner the next day, too. With this scenerio, that still leaves you $25.

If the grocery stores are raising there prices....so will the restaurants.
It is always cheaper to cook at home than to go out to eat.
You can easily spend 20$ on a meal at a restaurant for one person.....where on the other hand you can feed a family of 4 or more for the same amount of money.

It really depends on where you go to eat out and how many of you there are. I have found if its just myself, most of the time eating out is cheaper, I don't eat a lot, cup of soup, dinner salad... if its a family I don't care if its fast food or a fancy restaurant, its cheaper to eat at home as long as you use the food and don't let it go to waste. If you pick it apart meal by meal it depends on the meal some cost more to make especially if you have to buy seasonings such as herbs and spices. Overall, you buy those things and they last a while so yes again I say at home if its for a family.
Hope I helped
Have a GREAT day

I think overall is cheaper to eat out. Prices of ingredients are lower at supermarkets than in a restaurant, but adding your cost of time to shop, prepare, serve and afterwards do the dishes, you will be 100 times better off eating out. Just choose wisely the accounts to go. Ask for a monthly fare discount. Make friends with their chef. Treat well the waiting staff. Save the Earth.

It's generally cheaper to cook at home. Depends on what restaurants, and what you make at home. Plus, when you cook at home you can control the ingredients. Restaurant food has a lot of sodium and preservatives. And they have to cover their margin by jacking up prices.

I've been in the business long enough that I can see something on the menu, scoff at the price and say "I know how much this really cost!"

That is a really good question, especially lately... prices for certain foods are getting ridiculous aren't they?

I guess it really depends on what you like to eat and such... I think the food that is expensive at a restaurant ie. seafood and steak etc. is way cheaper to prepare at home. However for the smaller and inexpensive foods (fast food), you actually do save money eating out.

The best thing to do is to just try to balance it out for yourself. Do the math...literally!

I used to think that eating at home is cheaper. Actually, its healthier but right now I am in no mood to cook so what I do is eat out or buy entree then just cook rice at home. If you are cooking for one, save yourself the trouble and just eat out!

Rob from ********.com did a comparison for two months. It is cheaper to eat at home. Buying things like spices and supplies is more expensive at first, but they last a long time. Also prepackaged food is more expensive. Cooking from scratch is cheap if you pay attention to specials.

Cooking at home is much cheaper than eating out.
For example a cup of coffee at a restaurant costs $1.00 or more. coffee at home cost less than 25 cents per cup.
A steak dinner at a restaurant will cost $10.00 or more, buy a steak and cook it at home you can feed at least 2 people for the same cost.
And remember, at home you don't have to leave a tip!

No. When you eat at an Restaurant you have to pay not only for the food but also for the services and sometimes the services cost much more than the food you eat
