Hot curlers are meant to be used on already dry hair. So If you're in a real hurry and want a curly style, blow dry your hair first, then curl it with your hot curlers.
Make sure you use a leave in conditioner to help protect your hair from all the heat damage.

Why do you need to do both? Blow dry your hair a bit first then put it in the curlers.
Make sure to use a REALLY GOOD conditioner before this so your hair doesn't freak out under the heat stress.

You shouldn't be wearing curlers in your hair in the first place if it isn't already dry. You could damage the hair, if I were I'd blow dry the hair first.

Don't do it. This is too much heat for your hair to handle. Use the plastic rollers and let your hair dry naturally or get under a hooded hair dryer. Apply a moisturizer to your hair before doing this.
