You may want to discuss this with the probation office you wishto work for. In many areas they look for social science or social work degrees as much if not more than a criminal justice degree.
And normally for a state probaton officer you are going to have about 400 applications for any one opening, and over 1/2 of those will be from working police or correctional officers.
They see probation or parole often as a promotion or desk job where they get to work M to F .
So while you may meet requirements at a AA but if you don't have a BS or BA not much of a chnace for it

In Indiana and in many other states, you need a Bachelor's degree (either BA or BS) from an accredited college in order to become a probation officer. It doesn't have to be in Criminal Justice either, although that might make you more likely to get hired. My BA is in History, but we have other officers in our department with degrees in Education, Psychology, and Religion, as well as other fields. Most of us with non-criminal justice degrees came to the career of probation after working in other fields.

In my state you're required to have a 4 year degree and bypass a state certification attempt it is composed of the two juvenile and grownup law. My advice would be so which you would be able to do an internship along with your community probation branch that way you will understand precisely what you will would desire to qualify for the placement. besides, arms on adventure as against in basic terms e book understanding can assist you immensely once you bypass to take your examination.

It may vary from state to state (and county to county) but any probation dept. I have known requires a bachelors degree. Also, it does not necessarily need to be in Criminal Justice either. Many PO's have degrees such as Psychology, Speech Comm., Childhood Development, etc.

What is more important is political connection, there are a large number of probation officers who are former police officers with no education above high school, and some are just average citizens who have strong political affiliations.

Many probation officers get degrees in Sociology, but they are grossly underpaid and usually leave the field for law enforcement positions.
