I sell granite countertops. It is a common rule of thumb to seal your countertops once a year and it is important to do so to prevent waterspotting and stains from being absorbed into the natural pores of the stone.
See this website for more information. It is a quality company with good products.

I agree with DeeDub. You need to make sure that your granite countertops and travertine floors are sealed well. You also have to know the proper guidelines on how to install travertine pavers . You may seek the help of a professional team in order to make sure that you got everything right. Of course, make sure that you choose high quality home materials.

I may be real old school but I've been in various trades for many years, and have answered similar questions often,
First of all I'd never apply anything in the form of a sealer to any surface that might come in contact with food. Allowing the respect that a customer is always 'right" even when they aren't, I'd refuse a job that involved doing that.
The substances you mention are natural, and as such are polished, and certainly require care and maintenance in keeping them clean and shining, but both surfaces are also subject to wear, beyond the fact that you might be laying out a steak or veggies on a kitchen counter top. WEAR means added maintenance in any type of coating.
