Your tongue is turning grey because your body's pH is off. Did you ever have a pool or swim in one? Pools are always being shut down around my area because the "pH is too high or too low." That means the acidity of the chemicals in the water is too high or too low. Well the same thing happens in some people's bodies - when they get sick, the delicate balance of acidic chemicals in the body is thrown off. Thus, fungus and yeast thrive in the body, and your tongue has yeast on it, so --- voila --- your tongue has become a color show :-)

Check the back of your tongue. If it is a yeast infection of the mouth, then there will be big bumps in a line all across the back of your tongue, making a moon-crescent shape. Be aware, if you see this, then you have a yeast infection from being sick (whatever is causing your sore throat has also caused the pH to be thrown off in your body and the yeast is multiplying itself), and you will probably experience it in your vagina in a couple days, so start now to cut breads, pastas, sugars, or anything else from your diet that yeast will feed off of. This is only temporary, don't worry, you can have your cream puffs next week!

Here's what you need to do for now. The doctor won't do anything except give you a yeast assailant that you take ingestively instead of suppositorily, it's just like monistat - he'll probably prescribe diflucan. But you can avoid a doctor's bill by just eating a LOT of yogurt, and getting acidophilus bifidus supplements (the Acidophilus and bifidus are natural GOOD bacteria in your body that keep yeast in balance - you need to have more of that, because obviously what is causing your throat to hurt has also thrown your pH out of wack so the yeast is on the move :-) Eat a lot of vegetables, and avoid fruits except if they have high acid, like pinapples, lemons, etc.

Don't forget that yogurt! eat it like it's candy!!!!!!

If you have a cough and runny nose to go with the sore throat I would suggest Claritan D. I have all that junk going on and the Claritan has been working great!
