I've had strep throat for the 2nd time in less than two months (I'm looking into seeing a ear, nose and throat specialist about having my tonsils out in case I'm a carrier) and for some reason, the whole time I sick, I salivate constantly. Why is this?

Also, Just how much snot can the human head hold? I must have used 3 boxes of kleenex already.

It sounds like they need to give you a different course of antibiotics or other drugs to get you over the strep.

You really do need to get this strep cleared up because strep can go into the kidneys lay dormant and cause you kidneys to fail later in your life (glomerular nephritis).

Also, with strep you can get some other serious ailments that are long reaching and devastation.

You know Ive often wondered how much snot one person can hold too. You have sinuses all through out your face...think of your face as nothing but a tunneling system...Similar to your intestines in your stomach. There could 500 miles of sinus roads in your face. As far as the salivating..I assume its just your body's way of trying to heal itself, by keeping your mouth clean.
If you are having cold symptoms along with your sore throat...it probably isn't strep. If you do have strep you should be on anti biotics. See your Doc for sure. here is a link about Strep throat and its causes. Tonsillitis would be a reason to get you tonsils out not step throat and by the sounds of your symptoms...more likely tonsillitis than strep...but hey I'm no doctor....So, go see yours.http://health.yahoo.com/ency/healthwise/hw54745

PS....antibiotics cause Birth control pills to be less effective not the other way around.

Once you have strep it is much easier to contract it again. Be sure to take your antibiotic as prescribed and all of it. even when you are feeling better. Also when you are taking antibiotics be sure not to drink alcohol it defeats the purpose of the antibiotic and if you are using birth control it may not be effective...

As far as the mucous ,,,,it is much better to be able to get it out of your body than hold it in,,,,,,,,the mucous is the bodies way to naturally fight the infection, sort of like when your body runs fever it is a natural infection defense mechanism.

Excess mucus and saliva are caused by two things when you are sick. The virus that you have impacts the cells instructions and causes them to create added mucus and saliva. In addition to that mucus and saliva are your bodies natural reactions to try to rid your body of the infection. Especially with the fact that your infection was so close to the mouth and saliva glands it greatly increased production.
