How do I get scandisk to run again?

It stopped running. Then a message pops up that says there are too many windows open. Only one problem with that, the computer is offline! And I don't see any windows open, though I end up shutting down with them open, cause' the computer takes itself offline, without allowing me to get back to the start menu. Really awful.

Start, all programs, accessories, system tools.

Start up in safe mode,it should run just fine.
