At my neighborhood mailbox center, there is a clearly visible "No Soliciting" sign, we often have companies attach flyers anyway to our mailboxes. What can I do as a victim of this? What can be done to the company? Are there any steps I can take? Not sure if it depends on what state you live in, but I live in Michigan.

What needs to be done is the next time they disobey the sign take a picture of their sign next to the no soliciting sign then take their sign down and use the address or phone number to contact them..... document the time and the date and if they do it again call the city by law dept. or the better business bureau to see what they can do.

You are a client of your mailbox center which means they have to answer to you. Personally speak to the mailbox center manager and or write the mailbox center a vehement letter explaining your displeasure and cite that they are allowing the trespass of their own rules. In addition, the flyers that are being attached to your mail box surely have a contact address, write to the contact address and let them know that there advertising agent or field agent is placing their flyers on your personal mail box and that you want them to cease and dissist immediately and further, you want them to remove the flyer attached to your box. On the bottom of your letter or e-mail in the left hand corner put C:Mailbox center name ,the name of some lawyer firm, your initials.

Many subdivisions and apartments have these "No Soliciting" signs posted, including mine. It has become so bad in my neighborhood with door to door that I don't answer my door unless I am expecting company. I am tired of saying no to new curtains, buying magazines, or having my carpets (which I have hardwoord floors) steamed. When I am unfortunate enough to get to the door with one of these people, I remind them of the no soliciting sign and let them know that since they chose to violate our neighborhoods request of privacy, they are trespassing. I then let them know that it is time to leave and if I see them selling at my door again I will call the Police and report them for trespassing. As for postings, you can use the same tactic, but you have to see them actually posting you can't just say their company did it. Good luck.

You can write to a direct marketing site and request not to be sent anything. The cops don't have much to do with that. Or you can also complain to your state's department of consumer protection, who will contact the companies
