No, Taiwan is not a part of China. Taiwan is the Republic of China also known as Formosa, China is the Peoples' Republic of China.

Some Taiwanese people can trace their ancestry to China, but the people of Taiwan are Taiwanese.

The relationship between China (Peoples Republic of China) and Taiwan (Republic of China) is like the relationship between north and south Korea or East and West Germany.

The Republic of China was the Government of China before the Communists took over after world war 2.

Both Countries claim to be the true government of China but the Republic of China only controls Taiwan.

Taiwan is an independent nation struggling to maintain its Independence from China. China desires and claims to rule Taiwan but Taiwan has been an ally of the U.S. since WWII. Jimmy Carter travel led to China and basically sold our allegiance to Taiwan for better relations with China. So far Taiwan has managed to maintain its independence. My prayers are with them.

Depends on who you ask. China says, yes, Tawian is a sovereign territory/colony. Taiwan, however, says no, they are an independant nation.

Some countries recognize Taiwan's independance. Others do not.

Only some of the people who moved from China (about 20%) of the population and those they have converted (originally by violent persecution) think they are or want to be part of China. The rest of the population prefers the status quo or want a formal declaration of independence.

Since they have their own government, currency, military, constitution, freely elected leaders, and complete control of their own domestic and international affairs, and even name, they are, in fact, a separate country. However, because of politics, they aren't recognized by most countries in order to kiss China's butt. But come-on, the reality of how they actually function speaks for itself.
