It's way too funny.... Since you put it into perspective, I'm wondering why, since we technically pay for the roads, why are the roads around here full of potholes??? If I'm paying for them, I think they should be repaired as needed.......

You also pay taxes for prisons - should you choose whether you go to one? The police officers also pay taxes and thusly help pay there own salaries, do you? Rules of the road must be enforced for the safety of the general public. As a retired officer of 35 years I will say that I always hated working traffic enforcement details, but never gave a single citation that wasn't well-deserved. When I am asked to define a speed-trap I always tell the person asking the question that "a speed trap is the last place you received a speeding ticket".

What about cops like me that live in the town where they work. I pay myself, so really I work for free? It's not stupid. You pay our salaries so we can make sure that other people on the road don't drive crazy and kill you. Unless you violate the law then you don't pay us to pull you over. Here's the ultimate thing, all of us pay taxes even cops, not just property taxes but sales taxes. On top of the we all buy products. Everyone's job no matter what benefits from people buying products directly or indirectly. So really we all pay eachother. So when I buy new tires from the guy who owns a tire shop. He uses some of that money to buy a car, and then some of that money to drink beer at the bar. And then he uses some of that money to pay taxes to pay me, and then I pull him over and arrest him for dui. So really I paid for some of his getting pulled over and arrested and he paid me to do it. It's all part of what we call an "economy", and it's a great thing. The only other choice is anarchy. Your paying taxes that goes toward a cops salary is sort of like a#$hole insurance. So when you act like an a$$hole and outside of the law we are there to put you back in line so you can be on your merry way.

They are paid to enforce the laws that try to keep everyone safer on the roads. What gets me is the ticket writing though deff., have you ever noticed they do it more a certain time of month and certain times of the year. I know several law enf. too and yes, in case anyone wondered these are "ticket drives". A way too make the quota revenue wise. This is not my opinion, this is fact straight from the horses mouth and maybe it doesn't happen everywhere but it does here...right along with the speed traps waiting to catch you going a couple miles over the speed limit. The "funny" part of it being they like to wait in areas that are directly after a speed limit change alot of times... come on fairness please!!!

You don't "pay" ...
The money is effectively taken from you, whether you like it or not.
The government takes your money from you.... and pools it together with everyone else's in order to make things you will probably never use.
Alright... so the police MIGHT some day stop you getting burgled.... if they feel like it...... And you might well use the roads.... But aside from that, the majority of your money is paying for things for other people.... especially the lining on the politicians' pockets.
And you can't do a damned thing about it, because they're a bigger and stronger force than you are.

No it isn't stupid because we also pay the cops to protect us and if we are driving too fast we are not being protected from the dangers. So the cops are getting paid to stop us from driving too fast or too careless on our roads so they can protect the rest of the people out there.

No, its not, you pay for the right to be protected from idiots who drive high and just those who think the road belongs to them, all three lanes of it...at one time. You pay for the cops to make stops when they see weaving and./or road rage. You pay cops to protect you, on roads you pay for so you can get around safely.
Make sense now?

When you put it that way, there is some humor in it. We are paying them to keep us safe. Most people can't drive as it is, can you imagine what it would be like without enforcement!!

Yeah, it's something to think about. What's even more frustrating is the fact that many of them violate the very traffic laws of which they harass citizens.
