i have a few files that i downloaded and for some reason i can't delete them. Some of them says access denied and others just don't let me do anything. I used my virus scanner and it said it wasn't a virus either. is there another way i can delete them. Its been on my computer for a little less than a year.... thanks.

Ok, First off. You must have administrative rights to make any changes. Check this by right clicking on My Computer and clicking Manage. Go to local users and computers.
Click Users
Administrators
See if your user name is present.
If it isnt you must log into the administrator account follow the same instructions above except in this case you would add yourself simply by right clicking and selecting add user.
If you have administrative rights, right click on the folder and go to security, go to the bottom of that and you will see advanced. There you can see who owns that folder. Take ownership of it.
Now try deleting it. If that works great. If it does not, restart your computer and press F8 you will get a menu. Start in safe mode. Once up try deleting that folder that way.

Few ways that I have personally deleted a file like this:

1) renamed the file from .exe to something else. (Doesn't always work.)

2) restart in Safe Mode and hope that it isn't part of the start-up sequence. Then you should be able to delete it because it won't be in use.

3) swap the drive to another computer; set it up as Slave (jumper on back of drive). Now your drive is a 'data drive', not an OS drive, and you should be able to delete anything you want. Just be careful!

There's a simple way to delete these files.

Open the taskmanager and see the process, whether those files are running? If yes, just select them and click end process. Then you try to delete them.
If this doesn't work,
Goto run and type msconfig. goto startup and remove the check marks for except the antivirus (which you have installed) and restart the system.

After booting the system, open the taskmanager and see the process, whether they are still running?

Now you can delete them.
