Do you think that our feelings toward immigration are representative of how the rest of America thinks? If it's true then what are our congressmen doing? They don't represent us, who are they representing? We want not amnesty and we want the business fined for hiring them. Am I right?

You are right,in this assumption. The people in Washington, don't work for the American people even tho we pay their salary's with our taxes. They work only for the betterment of themselves. They don't care that we are up to our necks in illegal aliens,or that our states are costing us more and more to live in,to maintain our way of life.
We must enforce our laws against the employers that hire the illegals, they must be forced to stop this practice,or face the legal system.Zero tolerance must be adopted in this serious matter.Without the lure of employment perhaps the ones only looking to "work" would stop coming .

Section 274 felonies under the federal Immigration and Nationality Act, INA 274A(a)(1)(A):

A person (including a group of persons, business, organization, or local government) commits a federal felony when she or he:

* assists an alien s/he should reasonably know is illegally in the U.S. or who lacks employment authorization, by transporting, sheltering, or assisting him or her to obtain employment, or

* encourages that alien to remain in the U.S. by referring him or her to an employer or by acting as employer or agent for an employer in any way, or

* knowingly assists illegal aliens due to personal convictions.

Penalties upon conviction include criminal fines, imprisonment, and forfeiture of vehicles and real property used to commit the crime. Anyone employing or contracting with an illegal alien without verifying his or her work authorization status is guilty .Aliens and employers violating immigration laws are subject to arrest, detention, and seizure of their vehicles or property. In addition, individuals or entities who engage in racketeering enterprises that commit (or conspire to commit) immigration-related felonies are subject to private civil suits for treble damages and injunctive

All the answers without any exception make dismal reading. I do not know what would have happened had we been an ancient land with ancient civilisations like India and China. We would have perhaps massacred the immigrants. The narrow-mindedness of almost all the answerers show modern America in very lurid light(or shall I better say darkness). In India I found that after drawing the arbitray lines of Partitions the nations felt that these would be sancrosanct. However, they find that there is a continuous flow of people from Bangladesh to India licitly and illicitly. For the people of East Bengal which became Bangladesh the more industrious and prosperous West Bengal and the farms in Assam were natural destinations for work in pre-partition days. Just because somebody drew a line inthe rivers separating them it is futile to expect that the water will remain divided. It is the same story with Mexico. People gravitate towards us for employment. It is not as it were they are usurping our posts because they serve in menial jobs. We had the same problem in the last general elections about outsourcing. But our industialists (who to us are villaings) are in business and must cut expences wherever there is a scope. That is the foundation of our business and prosperity. Senators who understand this basic fact and canvass for a more liberal policy of immigrations are not traitors but have the good of America in their hearts . Rest assured the profit motive that is driving us has its own rules and regulations which it would followThe earlier we wake up to this age-making role of ours the better it would be for all concerned.Whether we like it or not it is happening and will go on. Already there are rumblings of having a Spanish national song. We better learn to live with it and change with it.

The elites on both side have a vested interest in free migration of poor people. It is the middle class it hurts, depressing wages and driving workers to poverty on the one hand, and ruining schools middle class children need to obtain their own opportunities, on the other hand, while driving up health care costs and draining services for our sick and elderly.

The politicos know the majority want no illegal immigration and want limits on immigration. That is why they hide what they do in 'guest worker' programs which are really permanent and allow family to come as well. That is why the Democrats are speaking forcefully about 'failed government programs' and border security, even as they vote for amnesty.

The problem is that there are a lot of issues in this world, and not enough people have made this issue the issue that controls their vote. Accordingly politicos count on being able to go back to business as usual after the elections.

The only way to change their ways is to change the way we vote.

I'm going to do just that, but given the Iraq war, etc., I don't know how many others will.

I think if more people were to sit down and put pen to paper, or send emails, or even better yet, ask to attend their local city council meetings on the issue, or write their representation in their state capitols, there'd be more cohesion between people's views and what the representatives reflect in their support/opposition for relevant policies...

You nailed it, my friend. Here in Kansas we have a governor that has been fighting to get illegals driver's licenses and instate tuition. Thank goodness we have had enough legislators with a little common sense to stop her. Luckily, she has shown her true colors to even the most dense Kansan and will be voted out a week from now.

Yes. You are right. Illegal immigration brings down wages, taps our natural resources, leads to urban sprawl, taxes our health care system, and leads to unfair gains by employers who are not following the law.

i think you are right on. as for politicians, they have their own agenda. the only time they care or appear to care is when they are running for office. why don,t we speed up the deportation of illegals and thro the employers in jail for a short stay. the law is the law. even for republicans and some dems and business owners.
