people are always trying to get to america, or canada, or the uk. lots of people had to fight to get our countries in the positions they are in now. don't all these immigrants see that they are just taking what our ancestors had to fight and die for? let them fix their own countries, and quit showing up here looking for a good life.

i would like to add that i in no way condone the treatment of the native peoples of this land at the hands of some of the settlers. it was, and always will be, wrong. but in defense of those settlers, they did not come here to be taken care of. there was no public welfare system for them to sponge off. they also had a greatly different view on what sort of lifestyle was acceptable, and i think many truly thought they were helping the natives. not all, but many.
back to today: there is also the problem of overcrowding. the place i grew up in was once full of fields and woods, and is now full of housing developments and shopping strips. enough is enough. america has all the citizens it needs. while i have more of a problem, of course, with the illegal ones, even the flow of legal immigrants should be stopped. this country is full to capacity.
lastly, i am surprised no one called me a racist hate-monger for posting this question. wonders never cease, i guess!

Wow, I completely agree with you. You're the first person I've seen that has the same opinion as me on this subject. To answer your question, I think it's out of pure laziness.

What our ancestors had to fight and die for? If I recall there was once a group of people that came across the ocean from England to start a new life because they didnt like the way things were going in there old country. We totally took the country away from the Native Americans. America is supposed to be the "mixing pot" or the "salad bowl"--meaning our country is all the countrys mixed together. Its what America stands for. We will push through and all the cultures will blend and eventually peace will come. America will be even more on top. We will all be happy---together. (but maybe not in our lifetimes)

Well some of them do in a sort of selfish way.
I heard on NPR that many Mexicans come here to earn more money than they can at home and then send it back to Mexico where they're in the process of building huge houses with all of the amenities where they can return to and "retire."
Sometimes they might also build something for the community but it sounds llike they by and large just fix up the place where they literally live and not try to improve the country as a whole, something I totally disagree with.

I agree they should try to fix their own countries and not sponge off us Americans!
They use all the education funds, Welfare, Food Stamps and Public Housing and drain the Church and charity food banks dry.
They have many identities and work under the table with one and collect food stamps and public housing with another.
If an American did that I'm sure we would all think the very worst of that person!!!

Except for Maverick all others are the Uncle S(h)am(e)s as America is depicted.Just imagine where would all our ancestors would have gone had the Red Indians been a powerful kingdomand not favourably inclined for these ';beggers across the sea(a land which they did not know existed and may as well be devils). In fact, being a nation consisting entirely of immigrants we would rather have favourably disposed towards these immigrants who join us to reach better and still better heights. As an American I sometimes have grave doubts about our oigins. Are we the real progeny of the brave ancestors whom we claim tobe our forefathers?

A GOOD LIFE-the truth is that is exactly what these people see on television........in actuality life is not so bad in these countries, and the truth is they can be fixed, but if these people are inundated with images of America and how American people live, they will do anything to get here........Just imagine if you were in another country and you saw television shows like Friends, and so on......you might think everything was fun all the time over here......Just a thought.....

Not true... people in other countries are desperate to make a life for their families and it's not their fault that their countries political situations are so corrupt that the only way to make an impact is with lots of money.
Kind of like what was happening in England 500 years ago...

Yes you are right my friend, I think they need to do a study. Why are all these immigrants so unhappy with their own country? America is the best country in the world for a reason, we don't need millions of immigrants coming here and ruining that.

You are so right! Alas, the truth of the matter is that people are always looking for the easy way out. That's just the way life goes.

Because they don't think of that. That is usually what I try to tell them to do. They should make their government better. A revolution type thing could occur. It's possible, they're either too lazy or they havn't thought of it yet.
