I saw my doctor, she put me on 15mg Abilify. I noticed I was immediately sick at my stomach, headache, and erection. I was also unable to sleep but, I think that was because I am coming off Geodon.

I used to take this medication 15mg and it gave me severe insommnia, eventually they took me off it. But I have to say it was the only medication that I had no other side effects from.

I'm on 30 mg of Abilify, which I take at night. I have no side effects from it. It has really helped me, as I am bipolar. I think you are experiencing withdrawl symptoms from going off your Geodon. But its hard to say as you are doing both at the same time. I would give the abilify a couple more days and if you are still having these symptoms, it would be a good idea to call your doctor and talk with him/her about it. Take care! Hugs! Von

Abilify is the only antipsychotic with few to no side effects. The one thing that's REALLY different about it though is that it must achieve a level, meaning it does not work right away like the rest of them do.

You should stay on your normal dose of Geodon for the first few days (even 10 to 14 days) of Abilify use and then depending on your current dose of Geodon, begin to very gradually wean off after about 10 to 14 days. You may need more than 15mg of Abilify, although that is considered standard effective dose. My son is 13 years old, 185lbs, takes 20mg Abilify for maximum stability.

(Our pdoc removed him from Risperdal directly to Abilify and of course he didn't sleep for three days and had psychosis... until I read the information myself and discovered that it wasn't fast acting like Risperdal is) :(

I am presently on Abilify and thus far it is the only type of that med that does not give me any side effects. I was not aware that it is slow acting or that it takes a while to get in your system.

I would discuss with your doc how you are feeling.

15 mg seems like a high starting dose. I was started on 5 and I think went up to 10 before discontinuing with it because it made me unbearably restless (a possible side effect), like I wanted to climb out of my own skin. It works really well for a friend of mine though. Maybe talk to your dr about taking a smaller dose to start out with.
