my eleven month old is about to be taken of the bottle and he still does not eat well from the table we try all kinds of different foods but nothing seems to work . He will take a few bites and then he is done we keep trying but he just spits it out and then takes a fit to get down and play. I am afraid that when the bottle is gone he will get sick. What should I do?

He will be turning one in just A few weeks so we have been trying to get him used to not having his bottle all the time instead of just taking it at oneyear

I had a lot of baby cereal left, so my daughter ate that for breakfast for quite awhile. I still mixed some of the baby fruits in with it. Eventually she had waffles and stuff, too, but having the cereal still gave me the confidence that she was still getting some of the vitamins and nutrients she should be, even if she didn't eat solid foods that well. I was just as worried about it as you are. It's a hard transition.

You could try incorporating a sippy cup before you actually take the bottle completely away. Give him the sippy during the day and at mealtimes. You would be surprised at how much they take off in eating after the bottle is gone. It's easier for them to suck on a bottle and fill their tummy up that way, than to take the time out to sit and eat foods. When the bottle is gone, they will start eating better......maybe not right away but they will. He won't starve himself, he WILL eat when he gets hungry. My kids do when they pull the "picky-eater" thing on me. Always have. Good luck!!

hang in there. when they take the baby off of the bottle at 12 mos, they don't exactly mean by that day. Our doctor told us by 15 mos really. We started weaning her off the bottle at 11 mos. I first took away the afternoon bottle, then 2 weeks later I took away her early morning bottle, then when she was about 12 1/2 mos I took away the mid morning bottle. I didn't take her night time bottle away until she was 16 mos. She loved and it soothed her so I just waited until I didn't think she would mind...and she didn't.

My daughter also didn't eat much. Sometimes she would sometimes she wouldn't. It helped me when I researched what a daily intake should be for a 12 month old. Once I learned that 1/2 a slice of bread is a serving, and a 1 inch cube of meat is a serving...I realized that she was eating a lot...I just didn't know it.

I'm wondering why take him off the bottle at this point, is there a reason you have too...? in most cases keeping a baby on a bottle til 12 months is a good idea... does he take fluids from a sippy cup yet? if you haven't tried, you ought to....
babies will almost always eat enough to stay healthy- but as a mom you should feel comfortable taking your concerns to your paediatrician- please talk to your baby's doctor.
good luck- being a new parent is not an easy thing for anyone~ =)

I know this is hard but you lay this patteron out by let him get away with this fits you should have put a stop to it ASAP. Yes it wil be hard to take him off the bottle at t his point do not take it way just try to give him a cup and the bottle but less bottle each day and more of the cup. Wait until potty training time that will be a gass.

Firstof all a baby shoud not be taken off the bottle until they are 12 months old. A baby can not properly digest cows mild until then, and as we all know babies change a lot in a month, so yes even though you're only a month early there could be issues. Also, if the child isn't eating properly then you need to sit back and keep trying. It takes a while for a baby who's been sucking all their lives to start chewing. Be patient. The child won't starve.

I dont agree with puzzlears ( i think thats how u spell it) I took my daughter off the bottle right before she turned 1 and she transitioned just fine. We have to realize that a toddlers stomach doesnt really hold a lot of food there digestive systen is still forming. When your chidl is hungry I'm certain that he will tell u that he is. Kids these days are just finiky about things. Try experminting with ways to seve his food, like putting fruit chunks in a ice tray its weird but it works

He has to have favorite foods. so make sure that he has his favorites for a while with other good nutrious foods.. maybe he don't like the feel of it in his mouth.. try to get veggies into him.. and mix some apple sauce or something with it.. most babys like there fruits and they are very good for them.. oatmeal and rice is good for them.. If he is hungary he will eat.. cut some hotdogs into small tiny pieces and just lay them on his tray. maybe some cherrios and stuff like that finger food.. so that he can eat what he needs.. keep him going on juices and stuff .. sippy cups there so when he is thirsty he can get a drink.. he will do fine. just keep putting food in front of him. that way he can eat when he wants to.. but when you are eatting make him stay there so he knows when meal time is.. don't want him to grow up thinking he don't have a schedual to follow.
remember that you are in control.

Don't worry he wont fall sick. He'll fuss about his bottle a bit then adjust.I had the same problem with my daughter when she was 13 months old and i wanted to take her off the breast but right after she stopped sucking she started eating well. The other option is to give him some time with the bottle 11 months is a bit too early to stop him allow him to walk properly first.

He'll eat when he is hungry. Just keep offering him food. If for some reason he refuses food and is getting sick (which I doubt will happen), then your ped and you should be able to come up with a plan to increase his calorie intake.
