This is called Possession Aggression.
Jack Russels can be great with children, they are very sturdy for a small dog, there is no need to get rid of your dog at this point.
There are many different reasons for possession aggression this is why seeing an animal behaviourist is the best way to solve the problem. Animal behaviourists deal with problem behaviours, Dog trainers prevent it. Unfortunately behaviourists are more expensive. There is no Liscencing for them, anyone can call themselves an animal behaviourist so be sure to ask questions about thier methods and experience and be comfortable before you agree to hire them.
Dominance is generally a leading cause for possession aggression. Dogs do need a leader, if you are not the leader they will become the leader. THere are many safe ways to become the leader of your pack. The best way to do so is to read this article on dominant dogs.

Jack Russels very intelligent, working breed of dog. Sometimes working breeds need a job, without one, they will choose a job for themselves, this job is sometimes object guarding.
Now that you know what it is called you can research the problem.

After working with the directions on this website you can do a different excercise that works with your issue.
-Take a toy that she would become possesive of and hold it out for her to chew on.
-Take it away, add peanut butter and hold it out for her to chew on.
-Give her the toy for a moment, then take it away and spread peanut butter on it.
-If she has no problems giving you back the toy, move your excercise to under the bed.
Move very slowly with this excercise, work on each step multiple times before moving onto the next.
You will pattern her to think that giving up the toy will result in reward, you control the resources.
good luck,..

Well, I have used this method for years. Keep squirt bottles around your house. When the dog goes to bite, or snatch something it's not suppose to squirt the dog in the face. This will get the dogs attention, and then scold the dog firmly. Never step down to the dog, or love on it right after you scold it.
If worse comes to worse you can use a small shock coller. When the dog bites, of goes to bite, shock the dog. I know this sounds mean, but it may be the only way to protect your family, and this is the quickest method.
Good Luck!

Jack Russels are notorious for being tempermental, and small dogs aren't readily recommended for houses with children solely because of their tendency to be a bit snippy. Some kind of "small dog, big" complex. I've seen many nasty small dogs in my life, and have yet to be bit by a big dog.
An animal trainer or behaviorist would be your best bet in figuring out what to do about your dog's biting problem. Investing in a muzzle might be a good idea, as well. She sounds very possessive.

Maybe your dog is too dominant? If she thinks she's the leader of your troop(family) she will have no respect for you. you can easily tell: if you're angry with a dog a good dog will fall on its back a dominant dog won't. You can become the leader by talking to her in the way I call 'dog language'. When she has a bone for example: quickly take it away, hold for yourself for a while and give it back to her after a minute, be sure she sees you have the bone, you decide what she gets, you're the leader. same for your kids their above your dog, leaders.
If you see her taking stuff: an easy way is is to get one of those sprays you you use for watering plants, and quickly spray her, this way you don't hurt and she doesn't know you did and most dogs hate it. Do this when having problems with barking too. against jumping up against people: when she jumps up to you quickly and softly stand on back paw, she'll go down immediatly and after repeats won't jump again.
The biting will surely stop when it's clear you're the leader(but suddenly a loud noise when a dog does something bad helps amazingly especially when dog keeps barking at people passing by, put the rdio on very loud ouutside, take the plug out and quickly put it in whe the dog is bad, when she stops, immediatly take it out again). I hope this will help.good luck!!

I'd seek out a trainer who specializes in behavioral issues, cuz your dog has some. She seems to be top dog in the house, or at least feels she is, and is acting as such.

The answer is so obvious. You need to decide what is more important, your kids or your dog. Then get rid of the kids.
