next time just follow the recipe
and make two separate batters
bake each one separately
n sandwhich them together with icing
or ice them separately
its abit more effort but it will taste better

PS use some vanilla extract/essence to cut the egg smell out

hope this helps

bye

Some recipes are not made to be doubled. That could be what happened. The same is true for canning jams and jellies. The recipes can't be doubled. It could also be the weather. Rainy type weather (not necessarily rain, but rain clouds) w/high barometer could mess up your recipe. So can high altitude (this one gets me all the time). Good luck.

It could be because you used self rising flour ... you should use all-purpose or cake flour.

could it be becoz u didn't whip the cream properly? or nt enough air incoparated in the mixture.. might be due to the oven temp too..
