In Georgia, with the fastest growing illegal immigrant population, "The number more than doubled from an estimated 220,000 in 2000 to 470,000 last year."

The state passed 'crack down laws.' Now, "A civil rights group sued the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency Wednesday, claiming its agents had harassed five U.S. citizens of Mexican descent during raids targeting illegal immigrants in southeast Georgia.

The Southern Poverty Law Center said the agents were engaging in a "Gestapo-like" campaign to drive Latinos out of the area. It claimed the agents entered houses without warrants, stopped cars on the street, terrified Latinos and vandalized their property."

If true, it would be horrible. But given our government's long history of having to be forced to enforce immigration laws at all, do we believe the plaintiffs or ICE which says the accusations are ""patently false?"

"The center is seeking class-action status for the lawsuit to cover everyone of Hispanic origin or appearance who lives within the area covered by immigration agents headquartered in Atlanta."

What I figure is that if they keep this up, they will lose the only friends they had on this topic. What do you think?

Jessy, Oh, I agree. I just don't to believe for a minute that that is what is actually happening.

The Southern Poverty Law Center and the ALCU are anti
American groups not unlike La Raza. All their agendas are the same. The downfall of this nation and our American way of life.I wouldn't believe any of the reports given by any of theses groups. They are liars and distort the truth to their own advantage. Its well know that the "spin" they put on things are never real facts.I am in favor of whatever it takes to stop the illegal aliens from finding comfort and aid here in this nation after entering it illegally.
There are laws Federal felony laws against aiding and abetting the illegal aliens.Perhaps those laws should also be enforced to the letter of the law.
I don't want to see legal Americans of any nationality harassed, but if you are facilitating the criminal acts of the illegal alien then you are guilty also.

The federal government has reported that Georgia had the fastest-growing illegal immigrant population in the country. The number more than doubled from an estimated 220,000 in 2000 to 470,000 last year. This year, state lawmakers passed some of the nation's toughest measures targeting illegal immigrants

Quote
She said she had unlocked the door thinking her mother was returning home and found instead several agents in her house
End quote

Was she outside then? If she unlocked her door and found them inside then she must have been outside of the house.

I'm pointing this out only because this is a statement that the defense attorneys will have a field day with.

Actually, when you open your door to a Federal Agent, that is as good as inviting them in.

one of whom had his hand on a holstered gun.
End Quote

Any time that a Federal Agent or Police Officer approaches a suspect, their hand is always on a holstered gun. This is for their own protection. There would be a problem if the weapon was drawn and pointed at the suspect.

Based on the story, the agents were lead to this home by company records. Most likely they were harboring illegals. This is why they were "raided". Harboring an illegal is - well, ILLEGAL.

I hope this won't be taken wrong. Many people who are minorities believe that any law enforced against them has something to do with their ethnic race. Nothing could be further from the truth. We all, regardless of race, have to live by the same law book if we're in this country.

I figure it's just another example of pro illegals over exagerating an event. They always say the cops are nazis or nazi like tactics were used. It's just a lame attempt at name calling they think will help their cause. They always cry racism but they are the real racists here. Viva La Raza. Mexican is an ethnicity not a race.

Cracking down on US citizens of Latino descent is horrible-this is exactly the kind of thing I was afraid would start to happen. We need to do something about illegal immigration but be careful to not step on the rights of Latino's here legally. After all they are American citizens just like you and I are.

Why does everyone on here talk about the illegals these people were not illegal they were American citizens!!!!!!!!!

We have the right to due process, the right to not have our homes invaded by the authorities without a warrant. This has to be obeyed in all cases, because some of those people are citizens. There are better ways of finding illegal immigrants without having to resort to violating our civil rights.

I am also alright with it, illegals are breaking the laws in this country so we should deal with them like the criminals they are. The government should of done something about it years ago,now it is such a big problem.
