He's been fluttering his wings against my window, and I've watched him do it. He's not pecking, he's just coming up to the window and getting so close that his wings are beating against the window when he flies over to it. I work nights, and he does this every morning at about 7:30 or so. It really seems like he wants to get in; god knows, he's been doing this for about three weeks or so. It's kinda driving me batty. Any suggestions as to why he's doing this, and possibly how to stop it, would be sooo welcome...

Funny
He sees his reflection and thinks its another male bird and he is going to have none of that,, this is HIS yard!

Try covering the window or putting some decals ( not plant looking) on the window if he cant see himself he wont come around..

You can also tape a oeice of paper to the outside of the window if insdie still offers reflection.. The sun must hit the window just right about 7:30am!
And he thinks this nasty other male bird is back again to harrass him and take over his yard!

I bet its been quite a sight to see! you should take a video...

Silly bird!

Good Luck

I believe that he is seeing his reflection in your window about this time every morning. He thinks it is another male cardinal in his territory and is trying to drive it away. You need to stop the reflection and he will stop. Hang a towel or sheet next to the window so there is no reflection and this should stop it. Both blinds and drapes would probably be too far from the window to stop the reflection, you need something against the window.

I agree with everyone that it is probably that he sees his reflections as a marauding male invading his territory.

Once, though we had a similar problem with a blue jay. It was a young bird that had been handfed and then released. He was scrounging for a free meal. He would not leave and we eventually had to handfeed him ourselves. He hung out for days and begged, even clinging to the car windsheild wipers when we tried to leave.

The only problem with this being a handfed baby on a begging mission is that you say he is a male. The babies should look like females.

He probably sees his refllection in the window and thinks its another male bird, he is defending his terratory. Try putting one of those sticker that looks like the shadow of a bird of prey... or maybe put up a wind chime or some kind of noise maker..or put some kind of dark covering over the window... the poor guy will move on in a day or so.

He sees himself in the window and thinks "what a great looking bird, think I will get some of that" and you can put something on the window so he won't see his reflection in it.
Funny thought.
