I did a pirate party for my son when he was 5. I made a several small cakes, using a bread pan and decorated them to look like treasure chests. I got gold coin candy for around the cakes. And used root beer for the pirates rum.....yo ho ho. Then came the treasure maps. We hid toy prizes in the backyard and had the maps point to each spot. (making it easy so that they could easily be found). Bandannas and eye patches for the kids made them look cute and the party was a hit. All this stuff can be made or found at a dollar store, it's been 22 yrs since I did this party, but it can still be inexpensive. Have fun. The imagination is the limit........if you can dream it, it can happen.

You can create invitations that are pieces of a map that can be put together (make duplicates in case the piece is forgotten).

Have a Treasure hunt in the backyard.

Order pirate stuff from the oriental trading company. I bought stick-on mustaches for the kids, and they looked hysterical on the kids. The girls especially!

Have fun and good luck!

Check out FamilyFun.com or check the library for back issues of their magazine that have pirate party info. They always have clever ideas.

treasure hunt, pin the eyepatch on the pirate (just get a poster of a pirate and make little construction paper eyepatches to put on it), have the kids make and decorate pirate hats, bake cookies and decorate them to look like coins...invitations in the form of ransom notes.
