I am a juvenile (though not a criminal :P) so i think i can answer that question.

1. parents who set rules and don't enforce them , or parents who don't want to set rules, for fear of their kid not liking them, or being too strict. let me tell you, all you parents out there : BE STRICT WITH US!! this may sound abnormally absurd coming from a teenager, and you may be thinking what has she been smoking, but i can tell you that my parents are stricter than most of my friend's parents, and i am better off for it. kids need to be treated differently for who they are, but rules are nessicary, and extremely helpful.. and all the rules in the world will not help if they are not inforced

2. lack of respect. i was spanked as a kid, and there is truth to spare the rod and spoil the child. think about this: when did we start thinking that spanking and disciplining was bad? and when did school shootings start? i sense a connection! when you are given the rules from the start, you will follow them. teenagers are extremely disrespectful to teachers, and they are past caring about suspension and detention.

3. the organizations that say that spanking your seven year old when he blatantly lies to your face is wrong.

YOUR QUESTION SHOULD NOT BE WHAT CAUSES JUVENILE CRIME, BUT HOW DO WE AS A SOCIETY WORK TO PREVENT IT.

Needless to say, society, the community, the family, the government and the parents need to work together to understand what children are all about. That is why it takes a whole village to raise a child. In order for children to become conscientious adults, it is essential that:

Communities strive to incorporate youths into community Functions,

More positive role models come forward,

Schools and parents discuss the elements of delinquency and crime,

Authorities and community groups acquire a broader knowledge and understanding of juvenile gangs,

More resources be allocated to the prevention of youthful drug and alcohol abuse,

The criminal justice system concentrate more resources on discerning the causes of juvenile crime,

Juveniles and the criminal justice system make a joint effort to address the issues of concern to them.

The main cause of juvenile crime is that the Department of Social Services has blocked parents from parenting. Thx again to the femi-nazis

there are so many reasons why... Alot of kids who do commit crimes come from low income families, meaning the parents are busy working 18 hours a day just so their children have food to eat and a place to stay... they are then raised by society and popular culture today tells them that they need brand name clothing and fast cars... so they push a little pot here and steal a couple of cars there... problem is that we have a legal system that's designed to protect the elite. so rich kids get off with a slap on the wrist and the poor ones end up in juvi and jail...

Parents not doing their jobs. Some parents want to be their child's friend. Doesn't work, you need to be their parent first. Other parents don't have time for their child. They expect schools, day cares, and other institutions to raise their child. Doesn't work. If you have children, find time for them. Still other parents find disciplining their child to be too much of trouble. So they allow their child to act anyway they want. Doesn't work, consistency is the answer. If you say no, don't change your mind. Finally, you have the parents who constantly bail their child out of whatever problem they are in. Doesn't work. Children need to know consequences for their actions. These parents are not helping their children by doing these things. Reality will one day slap their child in the face and they will have to learn life lessons the hard way. Not fair to the child or society.

Greetings!

The lack of legitimate involvement in the nurturing and youth life experiences by the parents, and the government.
To much pressure by the government in the sense of using schools as social and legal issues.
To much pressure from the parents by them trying to make their kids relive their own failed aspirations.
To much pressure period.
The kids really have no avenue to explore or learn by trial and error. They don't know what to like or dislike.
So, in the end anything goes. Unfortunately that any thing goes, sometimes leads to an empty future, jail or murder.

Good Luck

i do not think there is one main reason, but several. The lack of adult supervision, even when parents are in the home many times they are unavailable to their children due to heavy work schedules. The huge increase in drug use (crack cocaine, meth). Children are growing up with out proper supervision, nurturing and love. So i would say that the lack of parenting skills is a major issue. Children need boundaries and if they do not have them they run wild, learning as they go. It is not the amount of time we spend with our children but more important what we do with the time we spend. Parents need to be very involved in the daily activities of their children. And aware of who their friends are. God bless

Lack of discipline and respect.

If more 10 year olds got their X-Box and TV and Cell Phones taken away for 60 days and were unable to see friends during that period and had to stay in their rooms and do homework, the odds are they'd be more in control.

University of California Berkeley studies show this to be true.

Society should not be raising my child, I as a parent, should be raising my child. If I teach my child the difference between right and wrong and always strive to continue to be available to him when he needs me, society won't make much of a difference will it??? I have heard so many teachers complain about what they are expected to teach our children. Patience, kindness, considerate LOVE and trust are part of what is to be taught at home. Not by teachers, it is to be enforced by teachers, Teachers are ment to teach our children education in history, math, spelling, english/Languages, and special courses. Their job is not to teach our children how to be polite and how to treat others that STARTS AT HOME!!! Parents need to be parents and stop expecting everyone else to do it for them. God Bless!
