Thank you for your question.
The Qur'an was a revelation given to Muhammad (saw). He then repeated it to his companions who then memorized it. There were some people who wrote down what Muhammad (saw) said. After his (saw) death these writings were collected and a group of people who had actually heard Muhammad (saw) teach the Qur'an compiled the ones they unanimously agreed were accurate into the mishaf (book) that we now know as the Qur'an.
Muhammad (saw) himself was illiterate and did not write anything but rather memorized and repeated what was revealed from God to him (saw) through the angel Jibril (Gabriel)
There are three accepted Romanizations of the word they are 1. Qur'an 2. Koran 3. Quran. The spanish spelling is usually Coran.
The arabic word Qur'an means "The Recital" and stems from the origin of the revelation wherin Jibril commands Muhammad (saw) to "Recite". This also points to the actual revelation being an oral one. The book that we have is not the actual Quran but is a physical representation of it, called Mishaf.
The Quran has been translated into many different laguages although many say it is impossible to truly understand it except in its original language - Arabic. Even modern day native Arabic speakers have a hard time with it because Quranic Arabic is not like modern spoken Arabic. Just as an English speaker might have some degree of problems understanding poetry from the middle ages,
True understanding of the Quran comes from the heart and from knowledge of what are called Quranic sciences, exigesis and other commentaries written by contemporaries of Muhammad (saw) and his companions and scholars who have studied these subjects.
I hope I have answered your question.
Peace and Blessings,
Salim

1- he could not read or write. The Quran was recited. Memorized by millions and the prophet an angel gabriel revised the Quran every year to make sure no words where changed. God is the author of the Quran not prophet Muhammed (PBUH)
2-The book came in chapters for 23 years....
3- It still exists exactly as written in the time of our prophet. Muslims are urge to learn Arabic and also read and memorize the Quran. I memorized the bible in over 7 years. My Goal is the Quran before I am 30.

It is Al-Quran, and it is not written by Muhammad (peace).
Muhammad(peace) doesnt know how to read and write.
It is God's 'word', memorise wholeheartedly by Muhammad( peace) and was written down by several of his companoion.
The Quran was compiled into one volume during the caliphate era, so that it is not lost with time, even though thousands hav memorise it one whole book.
God has promised to protect The Quran till the end of time.
[15:9] Absolutely, we have revealed the reminder, and, absolutely, we will preserve it.
[56:77-80] This is an honorable Quran. In a protected book. None can grasp it except the sincere. A revelation from the Lord of the universe.

There are also many hafeez (experts who memorize Qur'an) during the entire history of Islam (even until now). The entire Qur'an is recited (in Arabic) by many hafeez + and ordinary Muslims especially during Ramadhan. Also, when Muslims pray, they could also recite any alternative chapters in Qur'an of their choosing (portion), besides the the mandatory chapter i.e. Al-Fatihah ("The Key"). These activities have somewhat ensure that the Qur'an is never forgotten or altered, since such alterations from the original Arabic recitations would be detected by Muslims and the hafeez/experts (especially) .

Hi, here is some interesting and true facts regarding Mohammed.
he started out as a sincere man and had a few of his own ideas about God,these he proposed to the jewish council of the day who rejected them outright.
this was a bitter pill for him to swallow, for he respected the people of the book as he called them.
next he tried it on with the Christian church at the time and they too could not accept his notions of God and belief, and so after this second rejection he wrote his own way of religious practices, which by the way are really a mixture of Judaism and Christianity but with subtle differences.
to get his new movement of the ground he started telling those around him that God had spoken to him and told himto do this.
much to his surprise his own people rejected his stories and put him out at risk to his life, this was how strongly they felt about his ideas.
finally having had his pride hurt big time,he developed what we now see as militant ideals in his new religion, and quite soon it started to gain support.
these are only some facts about Mohammed, and can be verified
by by many books and even on the net.
good luck.

Qur'an means recitation. It was revealed in Arabic itself. Muslims don't consider translations of Quran perfect because its beauty and style is almost completely lost in translations. Quran is considered a miracle in Arabic language since it is inimitable in its sytle in Arabic. Quran challanges to those who disbelieve in it to produce a chapter similar to it. Even the critics of Islam admit the beauty of Quran
I will give below few words of George Sale, a christian missinary and critic, who has studied Arabic and translated Quran to English.
"I will mention but one instance out of several, to show that this book was really admired for the beauty of its composure by those who must be allowed to have been competent judges. A poem of Labîd Ebn Rabîa, one of the greatest wits in Arabia in Mohammed’s time, being fixed up on the gate of the temple of Mecca, an honour allowed to none but the most esteemed performances, none of the other poets durst offer anything of their own in competition with it. But the second chapter of the Korân being fixed up by it soon after, Labîd himself (then an idolater) on reading the first verses only, was struck with admiration, and immediately professed the religion taught thereby, declaring that such words could proceed from an inspired person only.
The style of the Korân is generally beautiful and fluent, especially where it imitates the prophetic manner and scripture phrases. It is concise and often obscure, adorned with bold figures after the eastern taste, enlivened with florid and sententious expressions, and in many places, especially where the majesty and attributes of GOD are described, sublime and magnificent; of which the reader cannot but observe several instances, though he must not imagine the translation comes up to the original, notwithstanding my endeavours to do it justice.
Though it be written in prose, yet the sentences generally conclude in a long continued rhyme, for the sake of which the sense is often interrupted, and unnecessary repetitions too frequently made, which appear still more ridiculous in a translation, where the ornament, such as it is, for whose sake they were made, cannot be perceived. However, the Arabians are so mightily delighted with this jingling, that they employ it in their most elaborate compositions, which they also embellish with frequent passages of, and allusions to, the Korân, so that it is next to impossible to understand them without being well versed in this book.
It is probable the harmony of expression which the Arabians find in the Korân might contribute not a little to make them relish the doctrine therein taught, and give an efficacy to arguments which, had they been nakedly proposed without this rhetorical dress, might not have so easily prevailed. Very extraordinary effects are related of the power of words well chosen and artfully placed, which are no less powerful either to ravish or amaze than music itself; wherefore as much has been ascribed by the best orators to this part of rhetoric as to any other. He must have a very bad ear who is not uncommonly moved with the very cadence of a well-turned sentence; and Mohammed seems not to have been ignorant of the enthusiastic operation of rhetoric on the minds of men; for which reason he has not only employed his utmost skill in these his pretended revelations, to preserve the dignity and sublimity of style, which might seem not unworthy of the majesty of that Being, whom he gave out to be the author of them; and to imitate the prophetic manner of the Old Testament; but he has not neglected even the other arts of oratory; wherein he succeeded so well, and so strangely captivated the minds of his audience, that several of his opponents thought it the effect of witchcraft and enchantment, as he sometimes complains."
We can see that eventhough he claims Quran to be written by Mohammed because of his prejudice he cannot but admire it for its beauty.

Scholars of Islam say that Muhammad was like Jesus. He
taught by word of mouth, and his followers put it down in writing.
I seriously doubt the angel Gabriel, who gave the messages
to Muhammad, or Muhammad, ever called any of our Creators
children a pig or a dog.
So much for "perfect" books.
