Intellectual compatibility is not really an important ingredient for a relationship to work. Although it may help make it lively, since you can speak to each other on the same level, your discussions will be meaningful.
What is important, I believe, is understanding. If you are more intelligent than your partner, you should be able to express what you want to say in a manner that your partner understand. That way your partner will be able to reciprocate during your conversation. Having this type of open communication will help partners understand each other and consequently making the relationship last.

Absolutely! My husband is a tad smarter than me (IQ points), and I like it because I can learn from him. He is like a walking encyclopedia! On the other hand, I am no slouch either. We both were drawn to each other because of our intellectual conversations and ideas.
There is no way either one of us would have been happy with someone of lesser intelligence. There wouldn't be much to talk about and debate.

I think it's more a necessity. Someone with near equal intelligence can well understand and carry on a conversation along the same wavelength

It`s not just intelligence. How it comes across.Whether You gel.No one wants to be belittled in public coz they`re trying to be more intelligent than You.Dom inate.Someone who perhaps is just more worldly, and You can learn from.Yeah intelligence is important, but not the most important-You got to spend alot of time with them dont forget !! More intelligent than me,but NOT so they can use that to their advantage.I still wont give in to control.

yes, i very much feel that i would have to find someone on the same level of intelligence with me. If i did not i would feel like i was leaving them behind on a lot of things, and people who are slow really frustrate me because my thought process is very fast.

i think i do need to find someone that i can have intellectual compatibility with. i've dated guys that weren't all that smart and found no real stimulation or equality when it came to doing the things i liked doing. there have been so many times i've wanted to find someone who will go to museums with me, go into deep conversations about history with, or just value the things we have around us and not just the material things. it's hard to find.....still looking. definately is important to me and my real happiness.

They should be pretty close. I would hate to have to "talk down" to my partner all the time or explain things that I find simple.
