Actually the best and most sane and legal time to have sex is when you're married. Even the Bible says so. But in the world, it should be when you are of legal consent which is 18. Before having sex, you should be matured emotionally and physically to handle it as sex apart from the pleasure also has its downsides like sexually transmitted infections, aids, unwanted pregnancies and the emotional sides of being used and dumped or raped. You need to be fully equipped. Read literature on what it entails and the downsides as well so you would have a wide knowledge of it all.
Then please never let a guy force you into doing it if you are not totally ready. If you must do it, be prepared emotionally if the guy dumps you, know that the person you'll have sex with now may not be the same one from years to come. And use protection.

The age when you :
-come to terms with the fact that you MUST use protection
-will not get grounded for a year if your parents find out
-are adept at giving yourself an orgasm (you probably won't have one the first time, fyi)
-know that some people have sex just for fun, some because they love the person, and sometimes it's something in between, so it's important to be clear with the other person on how you feel.
-when it feels right.
Usually this comes around age 15 to 19 (for me it was 16)...but there is nothing wrong with doing what feels right, whether that means doing it, or waiting.

The age you are the day you say "I do!" in a wedding ceremony, then you are ready to have children under the best circumstances. To have sex just to have sex is taking risks you may not wish to have in your life. Its certainly your choice, but sex is not a sole activity, it always involves 2 if not more people (the unborn children), plus you are at risk for any number of STD's from your partner's previous partners ... as they say, when you have sex with someone, you have sex with them and every other partner they ever had sex with ... pretty risky and gruesome when you really look at the reality of it

I had sex for the first time at 15. Big mistake. I thought I was ready because everyone else had already done it but it was until I was about 18 that I was to take on all the responsiblity that comes with having sex.

as a mother and grandmother i want to tell you to wait forever. but that is not good advice. i don't really feel there is a answer for this question. sex is a very emotional thing. to young, and your hormones get the best of you. you think your in love, and your partner will tell you that just to get into your pants. please wait until you are 100% sure this is the one you want. if you experiment to early, just because your horney you set yourself up for alot of heartache. don't mean to be tacky, try pleasing yourself and learning about your body before you take a partner. and make sure when you do, you protect yourself. don't depend on the other to bring protection its not worth the risk.

When you are old enough to deal with the reality and financial implications of possible pregnancies, and wise enough to deal with concepts like AIDS and STD's from a realistic and responsible position. When you know that it is about more than an orgasm.
Then, you are ready, whatever your age.
