If you will settle for an RN I will give it a shot. China has had chronic problems with the purity of their water. They have dealt with this very nicely by boiling water and then drinking it hot. The same is true in many tea drinking cultures. They tend to have a much smaller rate of water born illness.

My kids grandmother is Korean and has many superstitions she brought from Korea . One of which is that she seems to believe that drinking cold water makes your teeth fall out. She also tried to tell me that I could not drink cold water after having a baby, that something horrible was going to happen. All she would tell me was that it makes you very sick.

I know the body has to work harded to bring cold water to body temperature using extra calories, possibly that poor asian people could not afford and thus making them sick out of general poor health due to lack of nutrition.

I believe that it all started by having unclean water and needing to boil it, therefore drinking warm water or hot water. This I belive morphed into countless superstitions passed around the asian world until some of them were so misguided that they have no idea why they do it but continue to to this day as a cultural habit.

As for medical doctors answering you I have my doubts of the people on yahoo answers who claim to be real doctors. I think many of the people claiming to be doctors are not really doctors. I doubt many doctors have the time or desire to hang out here.

You might have some luck going to the Asian Yahoo answers sites directly and asking some people on there. The links are at the bottom of the pages here.
