The truth is, his first couple days won't be that bad. Yes, he'll get yelled at, but nothing like in the movies. The first couple days, there's alot of things to get squared away. He'll have to get issued all his uniforms and finish filling out any papers they didn't do when he arrived. His day will start early, about 0500 hours. Lights out is typically 2100 hours. He'll be ready for that time. He'll be dog tired. After those first couple of days, the intense training begins. He'll learn to march, fire his weapon, work as a team, hand to hand combat and many other things. He'll have to pass 2 PT tests, one in early stages of training and one in the final stage. He'll learn respect, trust his battle buddy and become a team member. In that process, a man you never knew will evolve.

If at all possible, attend his graduation ceremony. It's a very proud moment. You should receive a letter from his command when all the details are available. That usually happens early on. That is, unless he's married, then his wife will receive the info. Write to him often and keep the letters encouraging and upbeat. Just don't expect to hear from him often. Even though they're given a little "free time", they're usually tired and preparing for the next day. Book your hotel early if you plan to attend. The hotels fill up very fast.

Good luck to him and you. Be proud of the choice he's made.

Your son's first day in basic training will be a rough one. For starters, they will make sure he gets up at 5:00 AM and they will be running him ragged (probably with some DI screaming at him) until 9:00 PM. He'll probably get his head shaved and get his uniforms issued today, and he will spend his entire time at basic training being told exactly what to do, exactly how to do it, and exactly when to do it. They literally run your life from 0500 to 2100 hours every day.

Basic training is NOT a pleasant experience, but it's a necessary experience. The mainstream liberal media would have you believe that the purpose of basic training is to turn your son into a mindless robot and erase every trace of individuality he has. Not true. The main purpose of basic training is to get people out of the long-held mindset of always putting themselves first. They put you in a uniform and make you look like everyone else to reinforce the ideas that (a) you're no better than the guy standing next to you, and (b) everyone who wears the uniform is on your team. BOTTOM LINE: You're useless to the Armed Forces unless you're a team player, you're watching the backs of your buddies, and you're willing to protect your buddies (even if it means taking a bullet for them). That's why everyone who comes into basic training has to be broken down before they can be built up again.

It's going to be a rough time for him, but if I could make it through I'm sure your son can. May God bless him and you during this trying time in both your lives.

Depending on what branch he went into to his mornig should start around 4 if he even gets to sleep the first night. The yelling is just like in the movies except they don't really curse at you. After the first week or so they tone down a little bit. Don't worry he will be fine. He will look back on it and laugh. But he isn't laughing now. I wish him the best of luck for I am sure he is a fine young man. Hoyaa!

Yes, by this time (7:10am) he is completely numb and his brain is beginning to fail to function as is intended. But don't worry he will get to sit down for his first military breakfast in about 20 minutes. After that he will be so busy that the day will just become a blur. Surprisingly everyone seems to survive the experience tho'.

Well depending on what branch he joined if he joined the Marines may God be with him lol it will be hard as for the Air Force it is harder than the Army and Navy BMT but no one will admit to it but that doesn't mean the Army and Navy BMT aren't hard. Yea he'll get yelled at and lots of other stuff but he will make it through its just a lot of BS that they have to go through to make sure they can handle it. And if by first day you mean he got there last night and today is his first day I am sure he has been up for hours my BF is in the military wrote me plenty of letters in basic they woke up at 3:30 am every morning and ran every where the first three days he wont get sleep he gets no time to eat and they run every where but that is all meant well we don't want a bunch of wimps fighting to protect us now do we? My boy friend graduates next week tell your son when you send him letters when he gets out hell say to himself well that didn't suck to bad. You can go to the website of the branch and usually they tell you what they do each week but grant it they do sugar coat it a lot.

All these people say you cant be hit but my ex went into the military and he swears by it they will cuse at you I mean I dont really know I am just saying but really if they do cuse no biggy just putting fear in the men and women

Unless he went to the soft basic training (it does exist) he's gonna get yelled at a bit. His day will suck. They will instruct him on all the policies and uniform wear. He will also learn how to make his bed, and how to do push-ups.

If he is not used to orders, then if will be rough. You get yelled a lot to weed out those that cannot handle stress.

no they don't get yelled at like in the movies..his day will probably be filled with paperwork and getting his barricks all set, meeting his unit and so forth, probably have a PT test (physical fitness) his getting up depends on his unit..my husband usually has formation at 7:30 but that is in NH so....plus he is a SGT..basic trainign is very different fo rthe first 3 weeks they try and break you and they will b/c they want you to act the way they want you to they want to know that when push comes to shove you can be counted on to take orders..that you mentally will be able to handle it....
