Have you seen today's Yahoo news about Donald Trump and the Flag? It says that he put up a very tall flag on the front of his home in Florida. Some "official" there, says he has to remove it, because it looks like a car dealers lot! He'll be fined $250. a day until he does! Trump's reply was that "any one in office who feels that way about our flag, shouldn't be in office".
Agree or diasagree??? (personally, I agree with Trump!)

I agree with Trump. It's ridiculous with all of the problems that we have in this country that local officials are obsessing over the size of an American flag. You would think the local officials would be more concerned about homes destroyed by hurricanes, taxes, etc. A politician who can't prioritize issues shouldn't be in office.

well I'm personally fond of Old Glory myself and I'm sure Trump is too, and I'm betting the local official is a fan as well.

However, now that I have read the article, the local ordinances require that flag poles be a certain height of no more than 42 feet (which also means a certain distance from roads, houses, etc. due to potential damage that it could cause if it fell over).

But the full story shows he has possibly been given an out by paying a fee for what amounts to an exception (not uncommon) through the landmarks board (he has til the 27th), which now he's fighting against. He's looking for publicity at this point?

If he really wants positive attention, get the exception to policy and mark it as a landmark in the town if he really wants an 80 foot flag pole so show off Old Glory. At least no one can then legally remove it regardless of any violations to zoning codes!

But, maybe it's more about him doing as he pleases instead of working with the community he resides in.

I haven't heard about it yet but I would think that there are ordinances concerning the size and placement of flags/signs etc. on exclusive properties such as Mr. Trumps. I'm also sure that Mr. Trump, the real estate tycoon, is entirely aware of the Home Owners Associations by-laws concerning his property. If he wants to pay $250 per day to fly his flag then I'm sure he could afford it. Lines have to be drawn somewhere when it comes to living around people and respecting their rights as well. I know it bothers me to see people using the flag as a curtain or table cloth and these days it's everything from flag shirts and sweaters to flag underwear. Is that patriotic? Maybe the flag is just as big as Mr. Trumps ego.

Trump has outsmarted city officers on numerous occasions. The have a resentment towards his suggestions...

He'll have to bring down that flag eventually, but I am sure it won't be without raising a big fuzz...

I assume this to be some community with bylaws regarding all sorts of regulations such as grass height, fence height, etc. ... if these conditions were known and agreed when purchased then you should abide by them. As all must abide by these rules what about if he is allowed to fly his big flag , then someone moves in and puts his equal size Iraqi flag or nazi flag....there would be no reasonable grounds to order the removal of that flag .
