How many times do people say they,"I'll pray for you." and then go home to their cosey little lifestyle and never lift a finger to help a person out? Isn't that kind of a poor way to promote Christianity?

YES.. I do....if someone is in trouble i will come to them, and I will stay with them until they are OK. or I will get someone to come take my place, if possible... Right now, i am trying to get someone here from another country who is being persecuted for their faith, and he will die if I do not get him out of there. I have been going the extreme effort to do everything I can in this country to get him here. I may even have to go to the country, which is dangerous, and get him and bring him back.... This is all at my expense, and I am laid off right now. I pray for him every day. He is just a boy, and he will stay and live in my home, just like many other children have stayed in my home, when they had no place to stay. I am "mother" to many children whom I have been given another chance in life.

Help and Pray while helping!
We all need both and I believe in Prayer it is real but the good spiritual loving way is not only pray but lend a hand .....HELP.

The "i will pray for you" is probably a good intention on that persons part however it does not satisfy many many needs.

We must give of ourselves freely and without discrimination, it is not always easy for us, or enjoyable, or convenient however that is the only way of gaining the love, joy and spirit in our lives, that is as you put it being a good "christian".
After all God does know your heart and every intention in your mind.............so no sense faking it.

Lot's of people say they'll pray that I will find God and become a Christian, it either hasn't worked or they didn't pray at all, what do you think?
That said, I think repetitive affirmations can have an effect on the person who does it him/herself, and prayer can be a lot like a repeated affirmation, I think prayer is a form of self-hypnosis but it doesn't recognise the process involved, I think self hypnosis is more honest.
I don't think prayers said for another can do anything for the other person.

That was what the missioneries did long time ago and now u will say oh u give money to spread christianity. The mother thersa did the same and many more people built hospitals , schools and homes. Many rich people r doing silently. But if we have no money we can pray. Money does not bring health or solve problems. Only prayer will do. So do not blame the people do not pray or help. Do it your self.

In many cases mens can't help in an material form ,and in this cases we pray, and God(if is The God will to) will give to that men the circumstances for be rezolved his problem. We must learn to pray, says Saint Mary to JNSR.Like Jesus says'... God I whant take from Me this glass, but not My will be,be Your will...' we must pray and add to our prayers "be Your Will God".
Our Lord Jesus Christ is The Savior of all mens,if we accept Him,so we must think to others mens too, even we forget our promisis,God knows our wishes and will Help.

Some things you can't help with, like the death of a loved one. All you can do is comfort them and pray they will find peace.

Both!

Living by the Word of God is the way to live of one following Christ. Being in obedience to God, following Christ will bear fruits!

See the fruit, identify the tree, know it's root!
