My husband is currently serving in Iraq. I called my local VFW post, they did not answer my question. They gave me the number to someone at a different post, who also did not answer my question. He was supposed to call me back, still waiting on that call since September. When you get a VFW dues renewal, it says that the money goes towards supporting families of service men/women that are currently serving our country. I want to know what type of services the VFW provides. I do need some support.

I don't know much about the VFW post, but I know my American Legion Post here helps out many of the families in our community with many different things such as making simple home repairs and car repairs and such. I know many of the people in the American Legion are alos in the VFW event though they are totally two different organizations. You can check out the American Legion post in your area and see if they can provide you with help you are looking for or see if they can direct you to where you need to go. You can always go to the VFW web site and send an e-mail to someone higher in the VFW organization and tell them your deal, and they might be able to get you a response for your questions.

I am a member of the VFW and they don't just focus on veterans, though they are the ones who do need more support after the government drops them. If you need help, they should be able to point you in the right direction. What many people do not understand is that active service personel and families have plenty of services available, the key to these is that they are ingrained in the active service's and are in direct contact and in essence can offer quicker assistance. But if you need help I can try and help.

If you have no luck with the VFW try some other veteran clubs like the American Legion.
Maybe try going to the club and talk to some people in person you may get better results in person, instead of playing phone tag
You can also try this website http://www.vfw.com/src/login.php
Hope this helps
God Bless your family, Hope your husband comes home soon.

AL and VFW focus primarily on VETERANS, not Active Duty. They are usually pretty good about VA benefits information.

AD personnel and their families should be relying on the FRG and Rear Det of their Commands for support and information.

Not all Veterans of Foreign Wars are sincere about helping. A lot are hypocrites. It depends on the individual chapters. Sadly a lot of them and those similar to them tend to support war without questioning. Many will quickly criticize dissenters even fellow veterans.

Remember the Swift Boat veterans as to how they attacked Senator John McCain of Arizona considering that he was a P.O.W. in VietNam

The Arizona Counter-Recruitment Coalition (AZCRC) is a group of students, teachers, parents, veterans, and workers from the Phoenix metro area who provide information and perspectives to counter-balance the one-sidedness of military recruiters.

As far as I know...they do not provide any support other than morale support for active duty personnel. Also, they will only let vets who served during official times of war to join...I served four years and have an honorable discharge, but because of the dates of my service, they would not allow me to join. Oh well, later I learned that it was just a big drinking club with only lip service to other activities.
