interesting theory
i would imagine that applies with religion yes
however most religions have adapted .. even those who seem set in their ways , did at one point borrow and adopt other beliefs
in saying that , i do feel that in present day , adapting is no longer accepted for many

When the current major religions (Christianity, Islam, Judaism) were shaped the world was mainly an agricultural economy with a feudal government. The religions tended to aid the governments in controlling the people (divine right to rule) and maximizing the profitability of the small farms (be fruitful and multiply, honor thy father all contributed to farm production). It was no coincidence that younger sons of royal families entered the priesthood.
Those same religions have been challenged by a current society that values none of these factors. It is not surprising that in Christianity there are so many different protestant denominations and Islam seems to have as many interpretations as their are Mullahs to read the Qu'ran.
It would be interesting to see where they end up in another few hundred years.

Historically speaking...yes, it would seem to be that. But then most of the religions that exist today have adapted in some form or another and continue to evolve in some way.

Yes. In fact, this is largely the premise of Daniel Dennett's "Breaking the Spell" (2005). Very important book.

Perhaps for some. However, true Christianity will never fade because Jesus Christ will never fade. So no matter how old fashioned it may seem to some, it will never die.
And by the way, for those who think it is old fashioned and outdated...you are wrong! It is exciting and dyanamic to serve the Living God Almighty!

Probably, this is why they are in denial over scientific discoveries, they are retreating so far into the gaps that science leaves behind that eventually they will fragment and wither away.
