If you register your software you'll receive all sort of information regarding eventual upgrades, patches releases, special offers and so on... The only disadvantage is that once registered you'll receive weekely emails from them and it can become kind of annoying...

I assume we are talking about a large lottery Jackpot and not winning a couple of thousand dollars or less. Anyway...... Advantages : Money - More money then you would know what to do with. You would have financial freedom to do what you wanted to do with the money. Pay off bills. Move. Options - You would have unlimited options. You could keep working or not, go anywhere/live anywhere in the world you wanted to. Basically you could do whatever you wanted Disadvantages : Money - More money then you would know what to do with. Yes this is both an advantage and a disadvantage. Many.....many large Jackpot winners have blown all the money or have made choices with the money that have gotten them killed or even gotten them in prison for years. Anonymity Gone - Unless you live in a handful of states that residents have the option to claim a large Jackpot anonymously then everyone in your state and millions in the U.S. and the world would know your name, know what you look like, and they would have access to info about you. Privacy as you knew it would be over. Even if you do live in one of those states it would be extremely difficult to stay completely anonymous. Lawsuits and Security - A large jackpot winner would be a target for lawsuits by anyone. Security for your family would also be an issue. It wouldn't be hard to find out where the winner lived and other things about them. Home invasions, kidnappings, and other things are a possibility especially these days. Tough Options - Would you share the money with family members? How would you divide it? Maybe you have 20 cousins, several aunts and uncles, parents, maybe you are married and your wife/husband has a big family, nieces and nephews, etc. Would everyone get the same amount? Would closer family get more? Would aunts and uncles get more then cousins? That all would put the winner in a very uncomfortable spot and it could possibly get very ugly to the point where the family is destroyed forever. Trust - If you won that big Jackpot it could be hard to trust any new person you meet unlike before when you hadn't won. If you are single how sure can you be that the new girl/guy in your life isn't interested in you just because of the money. If you meet a new friend how easy would it be to trust them that they weren't there to scam you or there just to leech off you. Hearing from people you haven't talked to in years - You can bet after you win those millions that some people you haven't heard from in years will contact you. Kind of strange that that's happening so how do you deal with that? Also people you don't know will contact you for everything from business opportunities to helping out someone who is really down on their luck.

The advantage of registering your software with the manufacturer is that you will be able to connect to the manufacturer and get any updates that they have . They will send you information on any any updates etc by email.
Disadvantages: sometimes you can get to many emails from the manufacturer and may even get a lot of emails from other companies that they are involved with or have your details sold on to other companies for marketing purposes

British software companies aren't allowed to sell or otherwise pass on your e-mail address or details unless you opt in; so don't! And you can opt out of e-mails if the company is reputable.
Registration usually gets you some technical support, updates, patches and freebies as a thank you for registering.
If the licence only allows you to re-install the product a set number of times and you like to re-install your os every so often, you may have to pay again.

The biggest disadvantage is DELUSION. 99.99999% of the population will NEVER, EVER win any sort of lottery jackpot. You can't even imagine just how many people actually TRULY believe that they WILL win a jackpot though! It's very sad, and actually downright sickening to think of these delusional fools. Some of them even obsess about winning the jackpot, and even create imaginary scenarios of them winning. They even start asking questions regarding their jackpot winning scenarios, and wonder if it's a good thing or a bad thing. Quite sad.
