Should I take him in and have the whole nail removed? He balks when I try to trim it and I'm afraid to anyway because it is so close to his pad. He also has an extra set of teeth that need to be removed. Does anyone know an average amount that it costs to have both things done?

No one can possibly give you an estimate of cost for such things without first examining your dog.

PLEASE have those retained deciduous (baby) teeth removed ASAP. They will cause lots of problems if you don't. We normally do it when we do the spay/neuter surgery. That way, you don't have to pay extra for the anesthesia, since it's already included in the cost of the surgery.

P.S. There is no such thing as a 'duel' claw. It's most likely a dewclaw, which is normally removed at birth in the Yorkie breed.

If the curving is severe, it grows right into his paw after a short period of growth, there would be cause to have it removed by your vet. I don't know offhand what would be a nail removal cost, but as its just one nail, my assumption would be less then $100, if not less then $50. Considering the actual removal, pain meds, wound covering and recovery time, if needed.

Does he whimper or try to skidaddle when you're trimming his other nails, or just that one? If its for all, the likelihood of him already being traumatized from a past nail trimming experience will cause his whining with that one nail. You could also opt for filing his nail instead of trimming if you're leary about it. While it'll take longer, its the easiest on you and your nerves.

And I'm sorry, I can't help with the cost of the extra teeth removal.

As far as a second cousin's third toenails go, I hear it's a sexy little number. BQ: Only if I got to kiss it first. BQ2: Popside Toes - Manhatten Transfer Twinkle Toes - Roy Orbison You're Stepping on My Toes - Frank Sinatra Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

You haven't gone to the vet for that yet?

Go ask now! You don't even have to go, but at least make a phone call! There is no point in posting that here, sorry.

Go make an appointment now.
