do youknow that bible keeps getting updated every now and then. what they forget is there are people are knowledgeable, keepa record of wht happened through ages. galelio and copernicus are truly great human beings, for they spent a great deal of time in pursuit of true knowledge. then looked for proof, studied, verified and then satisfied. they never took anything for granted.
in think the theory of flat earth fell flat on church and they have changed those verses in Isaiah to confirm with what is truth. more you go deep into bible, lots of such skeletons keep coming up. believers or followers are fools who do not verify anything. that is thier problem. nobody is bothered about them, leave them to thier fate. that is better for humanity.

Because at the time Aristotle was in the favour of the church and Aristotle said the earth was flat. I think Aristotle wrote a lot of things that were not quite right--some of it just to be contary to Plato (Plato thought the earth was round). Presumably, the thought the earth was flat because they had just come out of the dark ages and the masses were not very educated. Also realize that Galileo invented the telescope so they didn't know much about the surrounding solar system until then. It is very likely that the people who punished Galileo could not read the Bible. It is also possible that that verse has been changed in translation.
You will not find the word of God printed upon a page. It is written in the soil, the clouds, on leaves and in our hearts.

Same reason many fundamentalists oppose evolution and persecute teachers, scientists etc. Because they want to be the centre of the universe. It wasn't so much that they thought the world was flat (it was pretty widely known that it was spherical) but the fact that the earth and all the other planets rotated around the sun that they didn't like. Whether it was the Earth not being the centre of the universe, a 4.5 Billion year old Earth, or evolution, it all makes the fundamentalist feel less important.

Ah, he didn't go to jail because he said the earth was round. He went to jail be cause he said the moon wasn't smooth. You see, all things in heaven were made by God. There for, all things in heaven must be perfect. The moon was just as rough as the earth, Galileo went to jail for blasphemy.
It was a dark church. Thank God for Martin Luther.

The R catholic church was the world superpower at that time. They did everything in Latin and no one really understood the bible and were not encoured to. They just chanted it off in their 'holy' language parrot style. Similar to what many other religions do these days with their 'holy' languages. The first people to translated it (bible) so the common people could understand it were burnt at the stake. The RCC didn't want the people to read it and understand it.

You are talking Catholicism, not Christianity! These are the people who killed 86,000,000 people in the inquisition over a 400 year period. Galileo got off pretty easy. Besides everyone thought the world was flat back then, not just religions.
