If I were your boyfriend I would like you to find and buy me a "Clocky."
It is a totally cool alarm clock that rolls off the nightstand and hides when you it the snooze alarm. It also remembers where it has hidden so it doesn't go back there the next time.
I don't know if they are in stores yet, but they are supposed to be priced around $20-30 and should be on the shelves by Christmas.
And good sex usually works on just about any occasion.

Concert Tickets
Sporting Event Tickets
Electronic Devices (cell phone accessories, PDA's, computer things, etc)
Car Accessories (Seat Covers, Steering Wheel Covers, etc)
Buy (or cook) a special dinner.
A manly spa treatment.
Take him to a gentlemen's club and tip the dancers together.
Take him on a road trip!
If good sex isn't an option, try great sex... buy him the kama sutra and make it a birthday month of experimentation.

Do you know his hobbies yet? My husband collects eagles and clocks, and loves electronics. I got him some cool little gadgets from Eddie Bauer, and for Christmas I got him a wireless mouse. But he does not want me to buy his clothes. :)

Get him something that you know that he likes, if he likes music buy him a CD, if he likes cars get him something for his car. If you have no idea then take him some where nice to eat where you can both enjoy your time.

the best gift is always one thought out.. which means you think about something that he will find special..
example:
one of my friends once received a pool cue from his gorgeous girlfriend.. who actually hated playing pool.. but she wasnt selfish.. and believe me.. he may not have shown it to her.. since he was cool and all.. but to the boys he was always going on about it.. and i think he played better pool with it..
