I hate, loath. detest the dentist so my every empathy and support to you.
My dentist was so rude and nasty and that was one of my problems he scared me more so in the end my husband changed my dentist and went with me to the new one. I am still scared but finding a nice, understanding dentist does help honest. My husband come with me every time I go and nowing someone else is outside waiting for you helps so is there anyone that will go with you? If not think of all of us on here when you are in chair and all the support you have and you are not on your own there are thousands like you and even though I am 46 still like it!

I've been terrified of the dentist for years. As a result, most of my teeth had decayed so badly I just had stumps to chew with. My two main front teeth at the top were like incisors or needles. In the end, this year I decided I just had to do something about it. I got referred to hospital where, after a nine month delay, I had an operation under general anaesthetic and they removed, by digging through my gums, all but three of what was left of my teeth. That was two months ago and I still have an empty mouth while I wait for my gums to heal. I can't bite or chew anything. Next I have to have dentures fitted which will probably look horrible, keep falling out while I'm talking and will make me just as self-concious as I was with rotting teeth. I'm 37 years old and probably could have avoided all of this if I'd not been such a coward all my life. Surely I could have put up with a few days of fear and 20 minutes of terror once every 6 months? I would have done it for a roller coaster ride. Who knows, but I wish I hadn't been that coward. I do know how proud I felt of myself every time I came out of the dentist - maybe that can help. I truly wish you good luck.

i am not scared of the dentist, but i am a dental nurse which helps because when i have any treatment i am always having it done by someone that i trust and have faith to provide the best treatment, i do still get nervous though( i think its weird to think some people may enjoy it )
i suggest that if u are not happy with ure new dentist change and find a new one, as having trust in ure dentist goes along way,
try asking the dentist to explain things for u so that u have a better understanding of whats going to happen, some of those instruments look pretty scary, but the actually serve a simple cause
best of luck to you, and if at any point you feel its gets to much ask the dentist if you can take abreak

The best thing to do when you go to the dentist, in my opinion, is to think of the funniest thing ever. And just laugh your way through, you'll be so busy trying not to laugh, it'll be over before you know it.

I've been scared of my dentist before, but not all dentists are that bad. And a tip from experience, never close your eyes. If you close them it freaks you out, just keep your eyes open and check out what's going on. Also asking the dentist questions about what he or she is planning on doing next can help take away the fear of mystery.

I had been afraid of the dentist from the time I was 8. He did a procedure cutting the flap of skin between my front teeth. It took me 15 years to return. I had a dentist for a client and she found out how I was so she gave me a nerve pill right before her procedure. I can now go with out anything. I went through braces, and veneers.
I can smile today and I am not self conscience of my teeth which were yellow due to meds my mother took during pregnancy. I am very thankful to her every smile she has help me share.

I have mixed feelings about it. I get these weird feelings whenever I think about it, or go there, like I have to use the bathroom or something. Anyways, I am scared to go because I am afraid I might have to get a tooth pulled, or a cavity or something. I just had a tooth pulled, and still haven't overcome the fear. Then after that, I had one problem gone. Then it came back. I can feel an extra permanent tooth coming in :P

I cracked a tooth last night and have to go to the dentist. Its not so much that I'm scared of the dentist... I'm scared of the bill they are going to give me at the end of my treatment! :-(

Dentistry does not have to be painful, but it does have to be uncomfortable (e.g. loud whining drill, sore jaw, etc.) If your dentist hurts you, fire him and get a better one; but it it's just a phobia, all you can do is get over it (or not)

no, i'm married to one. Dentistry these days isn't quite as horrifying as it used to be. They have all sorts of painkillers.

Good luck
