My husband lives in America and i live in Australia now, ever since i have left America my pup is chewing on everything he can think of my husband works all day he can't leave him outside and won't leave him in his crate for more than an hour. Our puppy has a million toys to play with and a few pigs ears to chew on but would rather chew on the sofa or any other part of the house except his toys. Also im waiting on him to fly to Australia to be with me soon does anyone knows how much this would cost?
Thanks in Advance

I am an Aussie waiting on both my husband and OUR SON (puppy) to come here I miss them both so much, it hurts to be away from them and to watch my baby grow up so much in the past couple of months.

Your pup is probably teething. Some dogs are lifelong chewers. You need to train the pup as to what he can chew and what he can't. Too many toy's are a mistake. the pup gets overwhelmed and thinks everything on the floor is his. two or three toys tops. good strong chew toys. a treat filled kong is great. when the pup picks up his own toy, praise him a lot. when he picks up the wrong thing to chew, tell him "no" make him give it up and offer his toy. when he takes his toy praise him.

Puppies usually chew on furniture rather on toys. It is because their gums ich due to growing teeth. You should give your puppy a skin bone specially made for pupps and dogs which are available in any dog shop. Whenever you see your dog chewing any furniture just give him a skin bone made for pupps or a chew stick. Your dog could be missing you since he started chew the sofa only after you left. But still try giving him a skin bone and see if their is some difference.

All pup's chew some till they bout 2.1/2 it's just like a baby when they teething they chew on everything.
What i did was rub washing up liquid on everything he was chewing and it did work it wont hurt him as he'll hate the taste so he wont chew it lol.
Have you tryed getting him a smokey bone? that did help with my pup coz they love the flavour and it never looses its flavour.so they have a good chew on it till they got jaw ache so less likely 2 want 2 chew anything else for a while lol

Get back here. What are you doing over there with your hubby here. Yes you dog does miss him. Air in America is better for him?
Thank God my baby never went through that. My dog has found that he can move his food bowl around. He also knows he gets attention from it because I run over it with my wheelchair. I finally took the bowl away. Is he depressed? Maybe our dogs could talk on the phone together and talk out their depression? The breed has a lot to do with your problem.

No your dog is not depressed he's either bored, teething, or just a aggressive chewer. By Kong chew toys they are nearly indestructible and you can fill them with food to keep them busy. The original Kong you can fill with peanut butter freeze it and you pup will spend a while trying to get it all out.

he's either bored or teething. It could just be the fact that he's missing you and that chewing is the only way he can display this.Try getting him a "kong" toy and fill with with bits of chicken or his dog meat and that should keep him off your furniture for a while.Good luck,im sure his chewing faze will soon pass

Try putting a product called "Bitter Apple" on the sofa, it was invented by a vet to stop chewing on favorite things, it's made from "Apple Bitters" and tastes nasty but won't hurt the dog.

I would say he is teething and this can go on for 12 months I was told it can take them this long to stop chewing or it could be boredom or he could just want attention I would say if your hubby is at work all day

Hi this is a common problem due to the fact that the dog is bored & not getting enough attension as it really needs...If you can't get anyone to care for the dog all day that your husband is at work then I am affraid I would have to suggest re-homing him with someone thats got more time to spend with him as he's not having his basic needs met...
Dogs need a lot of our time if we are to care for them correctly & this is all to be taken into conideration when getting a dog...This message might seem harsh but I can only give you facts & it's not always what people want to hear...sorry if you do think it harsh...Regards Jake

well if its master is your husband, then it maybe depressed. a dog is a man's best friend, remember? it may die for him, for the sake of its master.. but in your case, i think it's just the normal depression.. it would just last for few days and it may feel better then.. i know this bcoz i have an experience. my dad is our dog's master and whenever he arrives, it's always waiting in front of the door.. shaking his tail, moving around, it even urinated bcoz of excitement.. so just take care of your dog until your husband arrives coz it may die if it wouldn't eat food and chew materials..
