I hate when people do this, but I'll do it anyway.
"The Cost of Children"
This is just too good not to pass on to all. Something absolutely
positive for a change. I have repeatedly seen the breakdown of the cost of raising a child, but this is the first time I have seen the rewards listed this way. It's nice- enjoy reading it!
The government recently calculated the cost of raising a child from birth to age 18 and came up with $160,140 for a middle income family. Talk about sticker shock! That doesn't even touch college tuition.
But $160,140 isn't so bad if you break it down. It translates into:
* $8,896.66 a year,
* $741.38 a month, or
* $171.08 a week.
* That's a mere $24.24 a day!
* Just over a dollar an hour.
Still, you might think the best financial advice is don't have children if you want to be "rich."
Actually, it is just the opposite.
What do you get for your $160,140?
* Naming rights. First, middle, and last!
* Glimpses of God every day.
* Giggles under the covers every night.
* More love than your heart can hold.
* Butterfly kisses and Velcro hugs.
* Endless wonder over rocks, ants, clouds, and warm cookies.
* A hand to hold, usually covered with jelly or chocolate.
* A partner for blowing bubbles, flying kites, etc.
* Someone to laugh yourself silly with, no matter what the boss said or how your stocks performed that day.
For $160,140, you never have to grow up. You get to:
* finger-paint,
* carve pumpkins,
* play hide-and-seek,
* catch lightning bugs, and
* never stop believing in Santa Claus.
You have an excuse to:
* keep reading the Adventures of Piglet and Pooh,
* watching Saturday morning cartoons,
* going to Disney movies, and
* wishing on stars.
You get to frame rainbows, hearts, and flowers under refrigerator
magnets and collect spray painted noodle wreaths for Christmas, hand prints set in clay for Mother's Day, and cards with backward letters for Father's Day.
For $160,140, there is no greater bang for your buck. You get to be a hero just for:
* retrieving a Frisbee off the garage roof,
* taking the training wheels off a bike,
* removing a splinter,
* filling a wading pool,
* coaxing a wad of gum out of bangs, and coaching a baseball team that never wins but always gets treated to ice cream regardless.
You get a front row seat to history to witness the:
* first step,
* first word,
* first bra,
* first date, and
* first time behind the wheel.
You get to be immortal. You get another branch added to your family tree, and if you're lucky, a
long list of limbs in your obituary called grandchildren and great grandchildren.
You get an education in psychology, nursing, criminal justice, communications, and human sexuality that no college can match.
In the eyes of a child, you rank right up there under God. You have all the power to heal a boo-boo, scare away the monsters under the bed, patch a broken heart, police a slumber party, ground them forever, and love them without limits, so that one day, they will (like you), love without counting the cost. That is quite a deal for the price!

Believe it or not It is actually an interesting point you raise.
I recently read a newspaper report on a study undertaken in NSW.
To the question "given your time over, would you still have children", a surprisingly high percentage (something like 68 if I recall correctly) of respondents said no.
Reasons cited were:
financial
disappointment in offspring's life choices
raising them was too hard
I think it is a fair indication of where society is heading; twenty years ago it would have been a smaller percentage.
Women are now waiting longer to have children and are having fewer.
Our Government is encouraging pregnancy by handing out baby bonuses in the form of $4000 for each birth.

sometimes they don't want the kids. They become pregnant by accident. Look at all the teen moms and single ones too! also, some love kids and believe in the bible's saying to adam and eve, go forth and multiply, i mean I asked this same question to my grandma and this is what she said.
On the other hand, kids can be all of those things you mentioned but it has its rewards. Kids are like innocent youthful beings and knowing that you can raise them well and give them love and support is grounds for a big acomplishment. They also want to pass down their genes and that is another reason they have kids. It's also a traditional thing to start a family ( i mean even animals like wolves come in packs and families).

Excellent question. Children are loud, expensive, messy, annoying and probably 100 other adjectives. But for those of us with children, we find them to be lovable, adorable and sweet. We find children bring out the best in us. But not everyone is cut out to be a parent and for those people I applaud you. If you know you don't want to experience children, then don't have them. And that is okay. It would be a disaster to have kids and not want them. Its the same concept with teaching - if you aren't cut out to be a superperson in the classroom, then don't become a teacher. In this country we are blessed with a very simple concept called CHOICE. Life can be just as rewarding with and without kids. We have several friends, single and married who have chosen not to have children and they are quite happy and we are happy to have them as friends.

Children make our lives complete. I'm only 21 but i feel as though there's something missing already. I have a boyfriend of 2 years who is age 32 and he is more than ready to have kids. I don't mind settling down cos then i feel more stable. Without children, who will we leave our heritage to? And who will we pass our traditions onto? You sound like someone who has more than one kid and is completely depressed by the thought of the cleaning, the money and the noise. If so, then why did you have them in the first place? Don't give yourself away to something that you know you'll regret someday. I want children and i know what they can be like making it more exciting to have some of my own in the future.

So you can relive your childhood, hopefully raise someone who will make the world a better place and do such a good job that they will want to take care of you in your old age. Don't venture into having children if you aren't ready, because if it isn't done right, there are dire circumstances and if it is done the way it is suppose to be done, they will be in your life all of your days.

I think in many cases people want them because they start out being so cute and cuddly and helpless. They are infants and everybody loves them. THEN they turn into kids. But the trick is to raise them right, so they DON'T become loud, expensive, messy and annoying. Get it?

Children are a gift from God .To desire to have children is to desire to be part of God's plan .To procreate , His command . What an awesome privilege to give birth to a miracle and be able to love nurture and watch this being become all God planned .To hold this tiny being in your arms is to know God's presence .To one day know your child is now the doctor delivering hundreds of these tiny miracles is just amazing !
