Don't you think CRB checks are not worth the paper they are printed on. You have to admit to using different names- why would you if you had something to hide. I had to work at a day nursery yesterday- I'm agency staff, but the are still supposed to check it, I hadn't been told to take it so didn't have it on me, but when I remembered that I had a scanned copy on e-mail they couldn't be bothered to look at oit anyway. Don't you think they are taking the issue a little too lightly?

Ian Huntley is precisely where the point about admitting to previously used names comes from, he hadn't, but how could you force someone to admit to it. Heaps of ppl still work before their CRB comes through, when you're supposed to wait. But they take such a long time to come through anyway, that I guess they don't want to be more thorough cos no-one would be able to start their job. Having worked in a number of places requiring CRBs I don't believe the day nursery I went to is any worse than any other, simply my newest example

We have CRB clearance to work with children in a charity and in a school. For each different area you need separate CRB, which is ludicrous because all they are doing is the same thing twice. At OUR expense.

Equally, a CRB clearance is only as good as the day it is issued - Ian Huntley had clearance.

However, they do give some level of protection and any nursery that doesn't check CRB forms should be reported. The children that go there are quite obviously not being protected in the way they should.

Although they have limited worth, they are the best the system can come up with and those who are under an obligation to check them should thake them VERY seriously.

If you have genuine concerns, you need to speak to someone with some sort of authority.

I'm sure the idea behind the CRB checks are sound, but no system is fool proof and with humans doing the work, errors will occur.

i completely agree with you on this one.
a couple of the primary schools by us allow volunteers to work in the schools in the classrooms. i know one of the ladies that works at one of the schools and she told me none of the volunteers have had a crb check done.
this is just so lax on the schools part in my opinion. it could be putting innocent children at risk in an enviroment were they should feel safe

Possibly, but this comes from a country which encourages children to walk around the streets on a dark night, knocking on the doors of strangers begging for money and sweets.
