Hi guys - got a question re cane toads.

Ok, I live in a townhouse on the Gold Coast, small fenced back yard, fairly well enclosed.

At night time, the court yard is riddled with cane toads, and I mean riddled!

What I want to know is where do the buggers hide out during the day? There is too many to cut and run and then come back at night, and there is not many places they can hide. We do have tiered landscaping, but I have poked around in there at daytime and never seem to disturb any.

Any ideas? I know I can't get rid of them all - but it would be a relief to get rid of some!

Thanks all

They will often hide under the mulch in your garden during the day - I have also found them in any small crack or crevice, behind pot plants and my washing machine.
They do die with salt but it is pretty cruel, (like the golf club method). The freezer method is really impractical - unless you have a spare chest freezer.
Putting them in a big gabage bag and running your car exhaust into it works really quickly. Spraying them with dettol also works well.
You will have to put lots of work into stopping others from coming back into your yard - like digging mesh into the ground and to 30cm above ground. Gate areas are really tricky to toad-proof.
Good luck!

This was a spoiler put out last summer: Cane is Shocked when he realizes Samantha is still alive and Colin and her are working together and Jill comes back to town admiting she was with Colin while she was away. But as we know, that's when JFP took over and scrapped a lot of stuff. This was how it played out: Genevieve went to Claude Shirl's room and found signs of a struggle and blood on the floor. Ronan suspected Genevieve of foul play. Cane refused to help Genevieve. Tucker gave Genevieve a wad of cash, and they shared a bittersweet kiss as she left Genoa City. Nothing else was ever said about Gen or the secret packages or the woman.

I've got a good idea - introduce another foreign species to get rid of them. Something that will feed only on cane toads.

DUH - someone already thought of that great idea, that's why we have cane toads.

Sorry babe....go with the golf clubs. I recommend a 9 iron.

That seems like the way we will be in a few months, they have reached the WA/NT border, do they shrivel up if you pour salt on them, like slugs?? I don't know. I would try the catching and freezing method as suggested earlier, but use a big net in your courtyard. Like fishing nets that enclose over things. Lay on ground and wait. Get a child to help they will keep their enthusiasm longer, I would imagine!!

the little buggers are a pain they can hide in very small places & wait for a bit of rain then 100's of them show up
best way to get rid of some of them(so they say) is to put on gloves catch them put in plastic bab & freeze to kill them then dispose of them (i find a golf club more fun but they come back)
