Hello,
Not only you can but you should to. Because there are no signs or symptoms of having high cholesterol.Below is the range:
Normal cholesterol total:less than 200 mg/dl
Normal LDL cholesterol:less than 130 mg/dl
Normal HDL cholesterol:> 40 mg/dl for men and 45 mg/dl for women.
Other values:
Borderline cholesterol total:200 to 239 mg/dl
Borderline LDL cholesterol:130 to 139 mg/dl
High risk cholesterol total:>230 mg/dl
High risk LDL cholesterol:>139 mg/dl
But I want you to know these fundamental facts.People who are at virtually no risk of coronary heart disease have their total cholesterol levels in 150 to 160 mg/dl and a LDL cholesterol levels below 80 mg/dl.
As the numbers go up,research show that cardiac risk increases. If you really want to be healthy, make the decision to have your total cholesterol levels under 180 mg/dl and your LDL cholesterol levels below 100 mg/dl.

You might have to pay for it in a private hospital, BUPA or something, it's quite unusual, I think, in England to do antyhing like that. If you're in America though, I remember my employee over there had check ups at her doctor's, I guess you pay more anyway over there, when I went to the drs in the states I used to get weighed and blood pressure taken by a nurse before every appoint!

Yes, a yearly physical can diagnose many a problem before it becomes a big problem.
What tests are done depend on your age, preexisting conditions and your Doc's instincts. Best preventative measure we have, and the least used.
