Depends on where you're traveling to/from. If you're leaving the US, check in with the airline... your passport info will be entered at check in. The US doesn't have a separate passport control procedure at departure. Then security and boarding. If you're an international passenger in most other countries, you wil go through passport control just before or after security. Some countries require you to fill out an embarkation card.

For disembarkation, usually you fill out your disembarkation card, go through passport control, pick up your luggage if you checked some then go through customs control.

For domestic flights you don't have to deal with the passport control stuff.
